New - Questions about options
Hi there, I am getting a G35Coupe for my g/f, and have some questions about the options.
1. We have to get an automatic for her, is it true I cannot get Brembo's etc with an automatic?
2. I hate the spoiler, but I wonder what "Rear underbody air diffusers" are included with Aero package? Does this make a difference in the appearance of the car somehow?
3. We are getting Red on Black w/ Premium, and Wheel and Tire package. Is the Nav worth 2k? Can she operate the radio without using the NAV? Does it conceal itself when not being used?
4. Body Side Moldings? Are those like door ding guards? Do they look tacky? Splash guards look stupid? Shouldn't the dealer throw in floor mats for free for goodness sakes?
5. Are these going for MSRP, or is there any room to deal?
Thanx, I have an M3, the G35 will look nice sitting next to her

Re: New - Questions about options
1. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the Brembo's only come with the 6MT. I wouldn't worry about it too much.. the standard brakes stop every bit as quick, the difference is that the Brembo's won't fade under heavy use (like taking it to the track). I doubt you'll notice the difference unless you're an extremely aggressive driver.
2. The rear underbody air diffusers are plastic panels that bolt underneath the car. You can't see them unless you get under the car. Combined with the spoiler, they drop the car's coefficient of dray by 0.01Cd, and provide zero rear-lift. This provides more stability at high speeds -- triple-digit speeds, so not a big thing to not have.
3. I have the Nav on my sedan. I think it's worth it. It has a lot of cool features. It is completely separate from the radio. You can operate the radio from the steering wheel or the console buttons. The Nav has a set up buttons at the top of the console that are always visible, but the Nav screen itself slides down and hides. You do lose the center-console top cubby hole (where the Nav screen goes) and the upper glove box (the Nav DVD drive is there).
4. You'll have to make your own opinion on body side moldings, but yeah.. they're to protect the doors. I think the splash guards look fine, but I don't have them on my sedan yet. Once again, an opinion. I believe floor mats are standard. The trunk mat is optional, but I haven't seen one come without that either.
5. Not much room on the coupes for price deals. The deals can be had on the sedans these days. Definately no dealing on the manual transmission, you may be able to get a token price drop on the automatic, but I wouldn't hold my breathe. Many coupes are sold within 10 minutes of sliding off the back of the truck, if they weren't pre-sold.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thank you!
About the Brembos, lets not fool ourselves, its about looks. If I can get them on the 5AT, I would like to.

Re: New - Questions about options
They're available aftermarket for somewhere in the $3-5k range, if I recall, for the front axle. I haven't seen them for the rear axle. If it's all about looks, you could also just paint your calipers and swap out the rotors for some slotted/cross-drilled ones.

Re: New - Questions about options
1. No, only the 6MT comes with Brembos.
2. They are under the vehicle, so you can't see them.
3. I don't think the Nav is worth the 2k. Use that cash for a trip for you two.
4. They are ding guards, but many think that it is placed too low to have any significant effect. Other say it looks good with certain colors, and that it creates a nice "break" by adding a line to the huge door surface. Others think is is hideous on all colors. Finally, you could always have it installed later if you really want it. As far as splash gurads are concerned, I believe Infiniti is now making them standard. I will be getting them on regardless as I think they look good and help protect the fragile paint in those sensitive areas.
5. Expect to pay MSRP. You may get a little off for auto, but I would focus on getting some accessories to sweeten the deal.

Re: New - Questions about options
Brembos come with 6MT, couldn't be that difficult to get them on a 5AT with the Wheel and Tire Package. I'll see what I can do and let everyone know ;-)
Looking to lease, so the NAV doesn't really make that much difference in the payment, just afraid of a big empty space there. Coming from my BMW, this NAV is far superior so I may really enjoy it.

Re: New - Questions about options
I don't know if people here have test driven both a car with and without Brembos, but I have - and I CAN tell a difference. My 6MT stops on a DIME. It was the first thing I noticed when I drove the car. When I drove an 5AT coupe and also a 6sp 350Z without Brembos, the cars just didn't stop as urgently.
Maybe this was due to those two cars not being broken in, but I don't think so. The Brembo's rotors are bigger than the standard brake's rotors, and the Brembos have 4-piston calipers in the front (I don't know what the standard brakes are - but I assume 2-piston).
Test drive the two types for yourself before you make your decision!

Re: New - Questions about options
Did you pay attention to which tires and/or wheels were on the cars with and without Brembos? The tires on the car can have a bigger impact on braking performance than the rotors/calipers can.
If the non-Brembo car had all-season tires, and the Brembo car had summer performance tires, then the effects you describe wouldn't solely be due to the brakes.

Re: New - Questions about options
1) You can get Brembos with an automatic. I test drove on CB with aero, premium and sport. I believe it is called the Sport package. Brembos and the 18" wheels are included with the premium on the 6MT.
2) The rear underbody diffusers are underneath the car to help control/divert the airflow if the car to lower the coefficient of drag. No, since it is underneath the car, you won't even notice it.
3) No, In my opinion. I can easily buy a map or ask somone on the road. It is just aesthetics to get the nav.
4) They are door ding guards and do look tacky. It is up to you. I do have a door ding on my baby. GRRRRR.
5) Most are MSRP. You might find LOW VOLUME dealers selling below but don't count on it. It nevers hurts to ask!!
M3 huh? Nice....
DG / Graphite Int 6MT premium. I love it.

Re: New - Questions about options
There is no "sport" package for the coupes. The "Performance Tire & Wheel" package includes 18" wheels, limited-slip rear differential, and the titanium interior trim, but no Brembos. At least, they don't mention Brembos with that package on the website.
