Wheel Spacers - Confused

Okay, so I sucked up my tiny bit of pride i had left and figure I'll just ask...

I got a pair of 17mm wheel spacers intending to push my front wheels out a bit. Figured it'd be nice and simple. But the OEM lug threads are longer than the spacers, so they're sticking out beyond the spacer, and the wheel won't fit snug onto the spacer because of this. Is there a better solution than attacking it with a Dremel?

Here are some pictures of my front left with the spacer sitting there, and the OEM lug threads poking out:

Please and thank you.

Would the brand matter? I have also been thinking of getting spacers but not committed to it yet.

but wouldn't the problem exist on any brand of spacer? because the spacer metal would need to be wider/longer then the existing stud to work?

Sorry if this is thread jacking, I'm just interested in this information.

oh... if anything you might have to pound out the old studs to get these to fit but then if you do that the spacers wont have anything to hold on to at all so i don't know what the answer is...

I've only ever had at least 20mm spacers so i didn't run into this problem but there were also v1 also so i had to swap out for extended studs

I would NOT suggest dremel. Unless you are gonna keep the spacers on for good and you are great at dremeling. You will most likely have to end up buying shorter lugs for your hub, then the wheels should clear...Some wheels have gaps in behind them so you dont have this problem, such as OEMs, but I don't think they are very deep. I had 20 and 25mm on my OEM Z wheels, and it was perfect fit

Side note, I may run into this problem with my +17s since I want to do 5mm and 10mm.... I have to check out the backs of my GT-S tho..... Good luck!

it has to do with 2 things.. the back of your WHEEL or the type of spacers u are using.. if you don't have indentions on the back of your WHEEL you cannot use spacers that have built in studs unless the spacer itself is fatter that your oem studs.. so you will have to use a type of spacer like the
Ichiba V1 with extended studs and replace them off of your hub..

i just ran into the same problem.. B2autodesigns explains it in better detail and pictures on their vendor for sale thread on spacers..

good luck..

Why not use some washers between the wheel lugs and the spacer?

My bro told me he had to do the same thing with his rotor/hub lug studs (I've been calling them lug threads x_x) but I don't want to resort to buying Ichiba spacers because I've read a lot of bad reviews. Also, replacing the OEM rotor/hub studs is a whole 'nother issue I haven't looked into yet. I'll look into it in a bit, so thanks for this info.

That sounds incredibly safe and I see 100% absolutely nothing that can go wrong here at all.

Well, I guess I'll just toss the 17mm's aside for now (maybe the rears will be different) and buy a bit thicker in the front... The thing is that I was mostly just trying to avoid rolling my fenders, cause that's a whole nother job to think about.

So dangerous not even funny, what i would do.... mark where you need to cut, take spacer off and double nut the stud on the line use a hack saw and take you time and cut the stud then when do remove the nuts to re thread the end that you cut. if you couldn't live without these spacers, but like others said throw them away.

watch out if you drill into your wheels, don't want to end up ruining them or lessening the integrity in some way....

Anything that seems easy, is probably the wrong way to do it. I'd say sell the spacers you got and get ichibaV1 as suggested above. Or cut them and let us know how it works

Drilling your wheels is just as stupid if not stupider than cutting your studs. Don't do either, buy a spacer with the correct setup for your wheel/hub.
