Actually, wouldn't relocating the battery to the rear also add to the total weight of the car?

We relocated mine to the trunk. You'll want to get some sort of battery tray and mount it securely to the trunk. Depending on what kind of battery you use, and if you are going to race, you may need to have an enclosed battery box and covers for the terminals (if you run a Optima battery, a closed box is unnecessary). Also, be sure you move the fusible link to the trunk as well, otherwise the length of battery cable running from the trunk to the engine will not have a fuse on it and could be dangerous if it somehow becomes exposed to a grounded surface.

Here's a sample kit:

While it is better for the overall weight balance, you honestly won't notice any difference.

You don't need to move the entire fuse box, just the fusible link (that large positive connector on the battery has a huge fuse on it). I'll try to get some pics tomorrow... my car is at the dealership.

most oems put the battery on the passenger side to help offset the fact that your body weight on the driver side upsets the overall weight balance of the car. Think about it, you sitting in the car, adds 160-200lbs to the whole left side of the car.

If your trying to get performance, you should really be trying to corner balance your car.

Informative post - thanks. Post any pics if you can please.

Where did you run the wires to the trunk.... under the car... thru the cabin?

Back when I was roadracing a Camaro, the GM race prep manual said moving the battery to the trunk (approx 12') was equivelent to moving the engine/trans back a whole foot. Any weight off the frontend is a good thing.
