Post Break-In Ride

Finished the break-in yesterday but didn't have time to play so tonight was the night. I drove over to a nearby road which has a good uphill run with several sweeping curves and a couple of lights a mile or more apart. After the top there is a long downhill run with several more sweeping curves down to the Hwy. I came off the light at the base of the hill, manually shifting the 5AT near red-line and was quickly at 90+. Several other cars were up ahead so I backed off, slipped up to 4th, bled off some speed then dropped to 3rd at about 3500 just to hear that great sound. Cruised around #1, then #2, back up to 4th and backed off again. #2 now spurts up a car length or two in front of me so I take a look. It's a brand new black Maxima. I drop back to 3rd, tweak the throttle, shoot by, shift to 4th and back off to watch my speed. 3rd and 4th are long gears and just fantastic, you can keep the revs up in the power band with lots of reserve. Well the Maxima comes back up so we played a little cat and mouse over the top. There was some traffic on the downhill which made it good for 3rd, using the engine to deaccelerate on approach, slip around, then jab the throttle to take off. The Maxima is now behind and I back off to cruise. The Maxima comes up again so we go through the sweepers at 80+, not really pushing it, probably both cautious of the new cars. Before the bottom of the hill, the Maxima swings past , down to the red light and into the left turn lane. It was a double turn lane so I pulled up on the inside. The light turned green and it was apparent the Maxima still wanted to play. Gradual but hard acceleration in 1st gear and it was clear who was in charge. But while checking where the Maxima was, I met "Mr. Rev. Limiter" and it pulled back up. WTF, shifted to 2nd and let the Coupe loose. Watched the revs better on the shift to 3rd, then used my rearview mirror to find the Maxima, and made sure it was put away. Into 3rd the Maxima had enough, so I backed off, went to the next light, did a U-turn and headed back to the hill. Pushed the Coupe to the red line through 2nd, 3rd on the uphill, backing off in 4th again at 90+. Some road undulations or buffeting at 90+ and the sweepers were a bit spooky but the Coupe stuck. Pushed it to red-line a couple more times in 1st and 2nd on the way home to complete the run.

If you think it's good now, just wait until you rack up 2K miles. It just keeps getting smoother, quicker, and with a better exhause note.
