Manumatic Downshifting Issues

Has anyone experienced any abrupt downshifting from 3rd to 1st as you come to a stop on their Coupe's auto trans?
Anybody take it to their dealer and get it resolved yet?

You don't really need to move it from 3rd to 1st. The good thing is that it does it automaticly hehehe.. So you only need to focus on shifting up :-)

Re: Manumatic Downshifting Issues

I've experienced it too.
This is the first auto I've ever owned, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

Everyone said I had to grow up, buy a big SUV to fit kids and, of course, get an automatic so I can take care of the new baby, talk on the cell phone and drink my starbucks all at the same time.
The auto was the only concession I made, but I'm starting to regret it a little.
I feel so disconnected from the car at times. It just doesn't feel like a true sports car to me.

I've found that shifting to 3rd to 2nd as you're approaching a stop helps eliminate the abrupt downshift, but I don't really feel that you should have to do this.

Yeah, that happens to me occasioanlly too, when in manual mode and I am coasting to a stop. I always notice it when I am in 2nd Gear, however. I don't thing I have noticed it when in 3rd. I also have not noticed it when in auto mode.

Re: Manumatic Downshifting Issues

I only get the abrupt downshifting from third down to first. It only occurs occasionally either when I downshift from third to second below 25 MPH or occasionally when I brake to a complete stop from third. I agree it doesn't occur in the full auto mode. I called the dealer and they said they never had heard of this issue being reported, and it is of his opinion, that it is just driveline lash and is normal.

So, for now, I'm in a wait and see mode.

dude i have that happen all the time from second gear. I have been testing it out to see when it occurs .I think it happens most when i come to fast and quick stop.I told the dealer but its hard to make it happen when they are around .It only happens in manual mode to .I drive in manual all the time so it happens allot to me. I got to get it to consistintly happen so i can take it in and show them. Let me know if you guys hear anything.

Re: Manumatic Downshifting Issues

It happened to me once and I freaked out, so now I just let the car shift down by itself, I take care of the upshifting alone.

I get this too. In manumatic when coasting to a stop below 10mph the transmission abruptly downshifts by itself into 1st. I feel a slight "clunk" and buck from the car. Only happens occasionally not all the time. In full AT mode it's smooth as silk and doesn't happen at all.

i think you guys should report this to your dealership or to infiniti, it might be some small glitch in the ecu shift timing..... probably an easy fix, but you should report it so that infiniti knows.
It will be an easy fix of reprogramming your ECU once a new version comes out (will only take a few minutes to reprogram)

Re: Manumatic Downshifting Issues

you should not shift into frist gear while your moving unless u are racing or somthing. Shift down till 2nd then wait til you are around 2 rpms then shift down or let the car do it. the way the gears are set up it will send the rpms up to high there for u will feel that shaking or jerk. Its best to downshift with breaking that a way you can control the RPMs better.
Good luck

Re: Manumatic Downshifting Issues

The jerking everyone is talking about is when the car shifts itself from 2-1. Its nothing the driver is doing. I agree, its a programming problem and I hope Infiniti wants to fix it.
