more arrows? how bout diagonal arrows? i agree and think arrows would be helpful, but i personally don't think its worth the extra money.
when i was reading reviews and stuff for both detectors it seemed like Mr. Valentine was a bitter old man. bashing here and there or talking some smack.
it even seems like he paid a magazine or two to put his detector up as #1.
just my thoughts. you can't go wrong with the 8500 or the v1.
like i said before, if you don't care about spending the extra money, go for the v1...other than that, the passport is good enough.
In all honesty, I think that the V1 is probably not for most people. Judging from some comments by people that laugh at the directional arrows, it's obvious that they really don't have the capacity to use this information wisely, and I think it would probably just be information overload if they attempted to use this device. I think it's only appropriate for drivers with more experience on the roads that have a very high level of awareness, and can properly use this additional tactical information. If you don't look at it like it's a war or a battle against people trying to trip you up, and take it with the utmost seriousness, then this device is not for you. I believe this is the main reason why the V1 is not sold in stores, because it's above and beyond what most regular consumers could handle.
I have an 8500. Thinking of giving it to my son and getting the Valentine. I figure, if you can't afford an extra $150 to $200 when you're driving a $30k car, there's something wrong....Especially when people spend more than that on stupid mods that are just for looks!
I mean come on guys, add up clear corners and aluminum pedals. Or even look at the price of the signal mirrors, and the 'Brake Cover'. Especially when some are spending >$600 bills for the '05 tail-lights!
To me, that's just crazy, (and I know crazy!)

It's not about not being able to afford the extra $150-$200 for the V1, it's about getting the most value for the money. If the best radar was $500 and the price was justified, I would have gotten that one. As for the arrows, if your eyes are on the road, you'll most likely hear the detector go off before you can look to check out the arrows, those few seconds may be all you get to slow down before the cop sees you. I'm not saying the arrows aren't useful, but it wasn't a major factor for me.
From post #42 this thread. Wrah quote, "Oh and found this: That C&D report came in Feb 2002, they said it was a "tie" two months later after facing heat about being biased!"
Any luck finding the "tie" report/source?

This came after retesting the V1 vs. the 8500x50
http://www.motortrend.com/searchresults/?terms=v1
I'd also like to point out that in all the comparisons 8500(non x50) beat the v1
exept C&D, they didn't test it against the 8500x50 which was reviewable at the time.
I live North West of Columbus in Dublin, we got 16-18" of snow and 1/2" of ice! Did you see my post in gerneral, about 170,000 people were w/o power
Central Ohio has been dry for 24 hours and still under snow emergancies!
