Brake Pad Squealing
Brake Pad Squealing
I have a 2007 G35 sedan with less than 29,000 miles on it. My brakes started squealing, so I changed them FR and RR. I applied the silicone to the pads as well as making sure the metal shims were replaced. I also used "brake parts cleaner" on all parts before reassembly. Now that the brakes have been replaced, they squeal more than they did before. This was done on September 12. I understand that the first few stops will squeal a little. It's been over a month and it seems to be getting worst. The rotors are fine, and I noticed that the break wear indicator (from the original brakes) never touched the rotor. Is there any other option? Will new rotors or spun rotors fix this? It's really becoming quite annoying. Please advise.
If I'm understanding you properly, you only changed the front right and rear right pads? That's very unusual... not sure why you'd do that. Usually people will replace just the fronts or just the rears, but I've never heard of anyone replacing just one side. That could be bad because different types of pads can grab differently on the rotor at different temperatures, causing the car to pull to one side when you brake. In fact, the front and rear pads are almost always different parts and not interchangeable. Did you buy a set of fronts and rears and only put in half of each set?
Are you sure the squeaking isn't coming from the other other side of the car in which you did not change?
What kind of pads did you use as replacements? Some pads are more prone to squealing than others.

Some pads also require you to bed them in once installed, depends on the brand though.
And as said above, it is weird to replace the pads on one side of the car and not the other. They are usually done in pairs of front or back.

I cleaned my front pads a few weeks back, I also used brake cleaner but not on the calipers itself.
The brake cleaner I used said not to use it on rubber parts, now if you sprayed the inside of your calipers where the rubber pistons sit I'm wondering if the rubber around the pistons may have been eaten or corroded.
