Thanks so much for this! I did this DIY today and it fixed my issue. I too suffered with the dreaded gas tank for over 1 year. I was only able to fill up to 12 gallons and it was driving me nuts. My warranty has been up for a while now and I wanted to try this before I paid a boatload of cash to have the problem fixed. My needle now is up to the F line for the first time in over 1 year!

Just did this myself, but I didn't fill the tank slowly after, so it reads one notch below full. If I try filling it slowly will it work fine next time I fill?

Nicely done! Thankfully, my sensor is still good.. but I'll keep this in mind when mine does go out..

A quick update: My needle stayed at 1/4 of a tank once my gas level decreased and it wouldn't budge. I thought I was getting superb gas mileage as I was already on 320 miles and thought I had 1/4 tank left. Then I ran out of gas 1/2 a block near a gas station :/ Anyone know what the problem is as to why my needle didn't indicate my tank was empty?

I think you should at least read the first page before posting

your sending unit sensor on your fuel pump is dirty, go to the dollar store and buy yourself a screwdriver and a small pack or q-tips, then read the first page... problem fixed

Just performed this process on my car and it instantly fixed the issue of the my fuel gauge fluctuating a quarter tank, usually showing almost a quarter tank low. Thanks for the post.
