Hi everybody!

new here, but I'm not actually here about my car. I have a buddy who got a G35 (6MT) a few months ago but is not a gearhead at all, I am. Recently, he's decided to start doing some things to his car but doesn't know what to do, but he knows I do when it comes to cars. So I joined to help him out and figure out what he will need to do with any future plans with his new car. To start, here's the car:

I am a longtime forum user on other forums (I've been driving a BMW for the past few years, used to drive Honda & Acura before that) so I know how it is to have noobs asking stupid questions instead of searching for an answer first. I promise not be one of those.

We have some minor plans in store right now, but here is my first question. Can somebody provide me with a link to a good thread about general maintenance for this car? I know what issues are common with my car, no clue on this one.

PO installed the Stillen CAI, but it looks like he took off (i dunno what to call it) the piece behind the grill that feeds air into the stock airbox, you can see where it connects at the bottom of the following picture. Where can he get one (besides a stealership)?

On my car I have something called a Dynamic Air Scoop, basically it is a piece of metal behind my grill that directs air into my CAI so the engine breathes much better at speed. Is there something like that for my buddy's car?

looks like this

you can see it behind the grill on this car (not mine)

thanks for all your help!

For beginner mods check the sticky at the top of the page. The intake does have an air scoop behind the grill to direct air into the intake. You can usually pick these up in the marketplace section for pretty cheap.

Least expensive place to find that scoop w/b a Nissan/Infiniti boneyard aka wrecking yard. You could also try www.infinitiparts.com or our sponsor Infiniti dealership OC Infiniti @ 714-650-8586 ask for Rick or Tony. Try the sticky at the top titled first mods for some advice. Who painted his wheels/grille emblem flat black?

stupid PO, it needs to be changed but he likes the matte look. worst part about it is PO did it with a spray paint can so it's not even and looks like crap when you get close to it. I'm trying to convince him to at least get it powder coated but he's not the smartest tool in the shed

also, thanks guys for responding. I did look at the stickies but they all seem to be about mods, I was wondering about maintenance. For example, my car has known coolant system issues so my friends and I usually do a preventative coolant system rebuild (and if we're feeling special we throw a Stewart SS high flow water pump in). What known issues are there with this car and at what mileages should things be dealt with before they crop up as bigger issues?

Most likely an 03-04 6MT, due to the Brembos.

The car is a 2004, 61k. By powdercoat I was referring to the wheels but he still wants to keep the matte look. Also, I believe he might need to change the widow regulator (motor) on the driver's side, how easy/hard of a DIY is that?

Not too bad, but you gotta remove the entire door panel and glass in order to do it. Once you get past the glass portion, it isn't hard at all.
