How will headers affect sound and performance?

i recently bought my G, its a 2004 with 90k on the clock. i have done the z tube and pop charger, HKS true dual exhaust, and im just waiting for my motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer to arrive. right now i am pretty pumped on how much the intake and exhaust have woken the car up at higher rpm, and how mellow sounding the car is for regular driving. my question is, will strup headers ruin the nice sound and make it raspy and nasty?will they even make a difference in power? cause drone? my car is an auto. thanks.

you should be just fine..you will be running a bit lean though after all your breather mods. think about getting a tune in the near future.

Rather than installing headers which won't show more than a few rwhp, install either high flow cats or Art-pipes. Most of the restriction in your exhaust system is in those OE cats. Replacing them should net you no less than 6 to 8 rwhp and improve your sound. Did you check the crossover in your HKS exhaust before installing it? Hopefully they've corrected there quality control issues.

A pop charger is just a different option that some people use when doing an aftermarket intake. It's made by a company called JWT, but If you already have a CAI on your car, you're all set in the intake department. You'd have to remove your CAI and put the Pop Charger on in its place.... and a CAI is probably better than a Pop Charger anyways.

headers at first look like decent gains for money, but the install time and cost is expensive. if you do it yourself it is a pain. it is one of my least favorite mods.

Headers offer very little power gains but they do sound nice IMO. When I had the Strup headers installed I didn't notice any rasp until I replaced my plenum with that of the Kinetix Velocity, even then it was only a minimal amount of rasp at higher RPM. Below is an old vid that will give you an idea of what they may sound like, its only in the first 50 seconds. Mods at the time: CAI, Kinetix plenum, Strup headers, Kinetix HFC's, and HKS dual exhaust.

I just put on HR Headers + FI HFC, the car sounds and performs so much better...
Granted, I did have an Osiris tune prior to the swap...
Much better low end torque and even throttle response.

Cant go wrong with oem HR headers = )

So you added the headers and HFCs at the same time, kinda difficult to tell where the extra HP came from...not. lol Hope your FI HFCs last, we've seen some bad results from them in the past year. Now you should be able to get a retune for around $100 with results of another 6 to 10 RWHP.

Actually, I ran a few days before my FI HFC arrived. I did HR headers + HR oem cats + HR Y pipe for a good 3 days. I definitely feel more power and low end TQ. It definitely wasn't as much as the 5/16 MD spacer + Mrev2 power... but it did feel like I got back the power / tq that I had lost since I took off the Nismo S tune exhaust. Granted, my car is Osiris tune prior. If you take a look at the DE headers, they are really crappy. It's as if they forced the design... If you ask me on my butt dyno? I say about 5 whp.

Of course, when I put on the FI HFC, the gains were more than that the HR headers. My butt dyno tells me 6-8 whp. I've never heard of FI HFC failing early tho? I guess time will tell?

I am looking to re-tune the car sometime in March. I made 251 whp with 5/16 MD, Mrev2, HR Y pipe, Nismo S tune. All I can say is tho... the car feels stronger than 251 from my butt dyno.

Regardless... I got my HR headers and HFC installed for only 300 bucks, I can't complain
