Dying alternator or battery?

Hi everyone,

Lately my car has died on me. I went to go pour gas and it started up normal and after i got done filling up the car would not start. A couple of the dash lights appeared like seat belt, air bag and even the temp outside. After i got a jump it cranked right back up and i was able to drive on it for a couple more days. Then it died on me last night at work but this time no dash lights or anything at all. Currently my car is running pioneer avic z2 and a mtx 2 channel amp with a capacitor. The previous owner told me that he put in a higher amp alternatorto handle the extra load from the head unit. Is it the alternator or the battery that is dying?

Thank you

get a voltameter and check the volts after letting the car sit over night. If your in the low 12's your due for a new battery. Sounds like you are.. check your terminal connections also for corrosion. Google "signs of a dead battery" there is lots of info on how to diagnose a weak battery.

If it was an alternator. After you jump start your car it would've died. Take the battery out and get it load tested.
