trouble starting car occasionally

Occasionally, my G has been giving me trouble starting some on some days. I gotto turn the key and it won't start up at all, but the power is working fine.

This has been happening every 5th or so time I go to start it. I usually have luck when I return the key to the normal position and try again, though. BTW I have a '05 g35 coupe 6mt

What could be the cause of this. Does it sound like the starter is going bad to you guys?

Clean your battery terminals and then reconnect the terminals nice and tight. If it still doesn't start, try taking a piece of wood, like a 2 foot length of 2x4 or a thick wooden dowel, and put it on the starter and rap the other end of it with a hammer. If the starter solenoid is stuck, this might free it up.... and you'll know that was the problem if it all of a sudden starts after you do this. If this fixes it, you need a new starter.

Oh man... if it's grinding, you should pull your starter immediately and look at the teeth on the starter gear. If they're ground up, replace it ASAP. You don't want to be using a starter that has ground or missing teeth on it's drive gear, or you could end up having to replace your entire flywheel if it chips teeth off of the flywheel or grinds them down too much. A starter is a cheap fix, a flywheel is not.... mainly due to the time it takes to pull the tranny and clutch, which can equate to a hefty bill unless you do it yourself.

OP, does it sound like grinding or does it sound like the starter is struggling to turn over but just can't get there ?
