i love driving fast, dont get me wrong. i try to practice "controlled speeding", for lack of a better description. basically, when i know theres nobody else on the road (i.e. late at night, open highway), i go fast. i just bought an escort 8500 x50 radar detector as well, and it has already saved my bacon once. weaving in & out of traffic going 90 during rush hour is asking for trouble in many different ways.

IMO there is a fine line between "safely" driving fast and reckless driving, but there is definitely a difference between the two. fortunately at age 22 i have never had a traffic violation (other than 2 warnings) and only one accident when i was 16 so i think my driving style is working out okay.

BTW in nebraska, 21+mph over the limit is $200 fine + court costs. if you double the speed limit, you're f*cked, and of course in construction zones fines are doubled.

California is (well at least it used to be, and I assume still is)

25MPH over OR double the limit (which ever comes first)
i.e. 90 in a 65, or 50 in a 25 (if you are doing 50 in a 25/residential then they should haul yor butt to jail - don't be a bozo and race in areas like that)

Anyway...
IF you get tagged...
1) be polite, and nice to the cop.
2) don't say "I wasn't speeding" always pisses em off
3) don't say "Oh yeah I was doing 110"
4) don't give some lame excuse
5) Very nicely say "I know I was going a bit fast, I am sorry, I wanted to check out my baby"

In almost all cases (my experience and my friends over the years) this will yeild you a ticket written up for much lower than you were actually doing.

IF you get written up for 25 over or double the limit. They Can if they choose site you for reckless driving (a 2 point ticket rather than standard 1). They can also arrest you if they choose, and impound your car.... (oh my god my poor baby).

If you get that 2 point ticket, you CAN NOT go to traffic school, it will hurt your insurance bad

You don't have to speed to enjoy a car. Speeding and getting caught are for
newb's. hehe My record is clean. never been ticketed on my weekend cars,
ever.

(but had been ticketed a few times years ago on my beater..for like
15 over. )
Slow down and drive safe. You can enjoy your cars on the roadcourse or
auto-x events if you can't keep yourself under control on the streets.

man that sux, i guesss it all depends on what kinda day the cop is having and on the mood of the judge who is handleing the case. I must say by hearing all your stories that i got extremly lucky only to have paid a $70 lawyer fee. But i did learn my lesson, now i try not to go over 90mph, although is hard with so many people racing on I-95 at night time
