Rear Ended

Well it finally happened. I got rear ended while stopping at a red light at a highway interchange. The other car was a GMC Jimmy. Right after the crash, the driver of the other car start going down to the on ramp (to me it was a little too fast to be pulling over after an accident). So I quickly followed. He didn't pull over until half way down the on ramp after seeing me behind him.

I figured he was trying to flee so I wrote the tag and info of the car. He got out and said "Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't even looking... follow me, I live down the street and we can settle this.." I told him no and pulled out the cell phone to call the police to file the report. As soon as I did that, he took off.

Officer told me that GMC was uninsured. Maybe that's why he ran. Good thing I have coverage for uninsured motorist. Took the car to a body shop and they estimated around $4,000, but could be more once fully look at it. I'm awaiting for an appointment with my insurance adjuster so they can get an estimate of the damage.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

you need left rear quarter, most likely drivers tailight, rear bumper, rear trunk lid, underside probably need the back of the frame itself pulled back out. not a fun repair but personally take the money and upgrade!!!!!

You're right, the underbody might have to be pulled back. Hope they will replace the quarter panel instead of repairing it. I think the exhaust is damage also. I can still drive the car. I will probably keep the car stock. Not sure what to upgrade with just the rear being damage.

The officer said he will try to find his number to call and give him a chance to turn himself in with no hit and run charge. Ehh, it was before Christmas, I would give him the same break. I don't care what they do to him as long as my car is fixed.

Good thing you have coverage, although I hope this guy gets the book thrown at him and gets every charge possible, Christmas or not. Its Scumbags like this that make insurance rate unreal. Glad to see no one got hurt and the G wasnt't totalled.

Good luck with it OP. I was hit and run a fews months ago. i was waiting for a light to change when i was rear ended. car wound up being totaled (over $10k in damages). good thing is my damage looked much worse than yours, I was hit square in the rear.

Looks like that quarter could be repaired after the pull is done. New rear body probably, though. Really not that bad of a hit!
