New G Owner... Absolutely Love It!! Warranty??

I've wanted a G forever and finally decided to pull the trigger!!

I've had it for about 2 months and I still drive with a smile on my face! It's an 06 6MT.

I took it in for a squeal at idle just before the 70000 mile mark, the dealership was great, replaced my belts, squeal gone. They offered me the extended warranty and I still dont know if that's something I want to do. I never get extra warranty for anything, but at that 70k mile mark I was wondering if it would be beneficial.

Whats your take on the extended warranty??

From what I see, Gs are extremely reliable.. But better to expect the worst and grab the extended warranty if it does cost you an arm and a leg. The G I'm going to get this Saturday has extended warranty.

Nice! Congrats!! Its something like 2500 for 3 yrs 120k miles... I'm a mechanic, so the only thing that concerns me is part cost. If I can recover the 2500 in parts, i'm all for it. As for labor, I can do almost anything that doesn't require special equipment or tooling.

If you're a mechanic I wouldn't waste the money on a warranty. I'm not and have done about 95% of my repairs myself. I am constantly amazed at how relatively easy the G is to work on.

I usually do most of the maintenance work but I'm glad my car had some extended/elite(?) warranty coverage when I bought it. Surprisingly, the warranty covered a new rack&pinion assembly while past 70K miles and with my current mods.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn you lucky S.O.B.! Nice find on the red G35 AND with a 6-speed! I was looking for one in my area for a while and I could only find the WV2 and other colors but mostly automatic... not to mention I wanted the black interior... Congratulations and take care of her.

Is that snow on the ground?

I wish I could keep my G that clean during this time of the year. No garage and I don' t want to ice up my driveway with ONR...

If you can do all the work yourself, I wouldn't get the warranty. Check for the major things that will go wrong (Compression rod, windows, door locks, radio, oil consumption, valve cover leak etc) and see if they've been fixed already.

Thanks everyone.... I'm gonna pass on the extended warranty! There is so much on this forum my eyes burn after hours of reading!!!

Well first on the list is Rear Wheel Bearings!! Last week I noticed a new howling sound that sounded like tires... I suspected wheel bearings since the G is notorious for that. It was confirmed yesterday when I got home!! The howling was bad on my drive in and once I parked I just looked into the wheels and I felt heat from the drivers rear wheel. The rim was hot to the touch!! All the others were cool. Ordered the bearings and hubs today, and that will be my project next week!!

I'd serioulsy consider the warranty with your car. The transmission on the 6 speed, rev up engine with oil consumption, radio CD issues are enough to pay for itself many times over. Good luck with your car. It's a beauty!

Agreed... i would get it just in case of the oil consumption issue with these engines also window motors, wheel bearings , radio , rack and pinion to mention a few.

car looks great!!!! i have the same model... in silver, enjoy!!!

Don't buy the warranty, the extended warranty is never as good as the manufacturers warranty, and I've seen lots of instances where guys got denied coverage because of some BS when they'd been told they'd be fine before they bought it..
I've got an 06 6MT and there really aren't that many issues that it would even cover.

Definitely check for oil consumption and leaking valve covers while you've still got factory coverage, then just roll with it, properly maintained these cars will last a long time
