wd40 or white lithium grease on seat rail?

My driver seat on my 04 g35 has a slight squeak which sounds like it is coming from the back left side. If I raise the seat up vertically as I am driving a half or full inch, it goes away. It just seems like it is when seat is all the way down or slightly raised. I have looked under the seat and there was some dust and stuff on the rails. Not sure where exactly the squeak is coming from.

I can tell it is metal on metal (i think) Was going to put some lube on the metal parts down there and on the rails where the seat moves forward and back. Did not know if it is safe to use wd40, or white lithium grease. I have read on here to use lithium, but I think that might get goopy and messy? Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks!

White Lithium, no questions asked. I really don't see any need for WD-40 anymore for hardly any applications. If I want to break free a rusted/seized bolt, I use something like PB-Blaster or Seafoam Deep Creep. If I want to lube up something that isn't generally exposed to large amounts of dirt, I use white lithium grease(door hinges, seat rails, etc). If it's something that is exposed to a lot of dirt that needs lubing, I'll use either marine grease or motorcycle chain roller spray lube.

I've lubed the front seat rails on my G35 several times since owning the car though using white lithium grease.

Yep, lithium all the way. I took my seat out, WD'd the rails and the squeak went away for about 3 days. Just lithium'd and no squeak for a couple weeks now

If you're worried about a mess take out the seat. Taking it out is about 15 min tops. Makes it a lot easier to reach all the rails and maneuver around. If youre easy on the trigger and you have a straw, like WD has it keeps it contained.
