Illegal dealer tags/ badging

For those of you that are interested, you have the legal right to take your car to the dealership of purchase and demand that any and all of their decals that they put on the car be removed.

Why?

It is noncompensated advertising. Basically, they are using you to advertise their dealership without your consent, and without compensation. It is exactly the same as Pizza Hut coming to your house and putting one of their signs on your car and then not paying you for it.

A dealership must remove it if you request it. Legally, they cannot refuse, but if they do you can demand advertising compensation, backlogged from the date of purchase. Lawyers have a formula they use that includes the squarefootage of the decal multiplied by the hours traveled, etc.....

Just FYI.

I never advertise for dealers; imo their stickers and chintzy license plate frames cheapen the car.

There are dealers here, where there decals are actually bolted onto the car, so if you remove it, you'll have holes on your car...

Bolting them onto the car is just plain wrong. That is their answer to the people that remove the decals after purchase. IMO that would be a deal breaker on the sale.

They HAVE to remove the bolted on piece. Now that you have holes in your car, they are responsible to repair them because that is classified as unrequested (and quite unnecessary) modification.

They will feed you BS, but call your insurance company or any good auto lawyer and they will call them and politely inform them of the law.

Come to Oregon, and I'll show you a couple dealers that bolt their logos on Thankfully, the Infiniti dealer doesn't do that here...

When I lived in New York City, it seemed that dealer tags bolted onto the car was the norm. Thank goodness I live in Los Angeles now where they don't do that.

When buying my 98 Ford Explorer I refused to buy the car after they refused to take the "DICKRUHLFORD" off the back. They are bolted on, and when requesting that it not be put on during delivery, they did anyway, and I walked away!

The first thing I always take off my car are the dealer plate frames and dealer emblem that are mounted with 3M tape.

bolted on huh...dang, that is VERY VERY SAD!

i have honestly never seen logos bolted on or sticked on new cars before. the only thing i've seen (which is normal everywhere) is the dealer license plate holders. i think i would go ballistic if a dealer did that to my new car.

hmm...actually...for me, I think it's weird if I don't see a dealer plate and frame on a car if it is new. I hate bolt on emblems and 3m emblems (which I would remove the second I get home) but I would rather leave the dealer plate and frame on the car. I guess it informs other people that i bought a new car? hahahha...show off rights

I specifically asked for no emblem, only to learn then that that dealer doesn't put them on anyway.

The plate frame isn't too much of an issue, since it is easy to remove.
