First thing I told my dealer was no decals! Also told the lot boy who did the PDI... NO DECALS. They were cool with it. I still have the dealer plate frame but intend on changing that very soon. I would rather run with no plate protector then advertise them for free.

That just angers me when I see that on other peoples car. Now if they gave me the car for 50% off then that would be a very different story! But we all know that won't happen!

The plate frame isn't too much of an issue, since it is easy to remove.
The only time it's an issue is when they have to drill holes into your front bumper, to mount the bracket, to hold the dealer placard. I've seen some dealers drill holes on the side of the front bumper, even though the car has a molded integrated bracket in the center. Dealer either didn't know, or didn't want to remove the center cover with emblem on it.

I believe that the ability of a dealer to "put/not put" permenant makings on a car is limited by state law. So here in beautiful (wet) California, they have not been able to do it for many years. In states without such a law I don't that a demand from a laywer would get very far.

Interesting topic. I always wondered why people allowed or bought a car with painted on dealer ads on the rear. I have noticed that it seems that most cars in CA don't have dealer ads on, and those from other states, particulary the eastern states, it is common for a dealer to run his/her ads. Anyone know the specific law(s)?

Thank god they don't do that in Cali.

My cousin had an old Trooper w/ the spare tire on the back, and the vinyl tire cover had a huge dealer name printed on it. She turned it upside down but she should have asked for a blank one, lol.

Consider that people go out, and BUY, t-shirts and other items with advertising on them

i never understood that whole thing. i'm from southern california, and like no dealers ever put that stuff on your car. but in other states i've visited tons of cars have decals and extra emblems.

here we get maybe a license plate frame, that can be easily removed. maybe there is a law down there preventing it.

You are suppose to discuss this with the dealer and make it part of the contract prior to signing. After you sign the contract and pick up the car you "have agreed" to what you get.
