Drive belt cracked

hi guys,

hope this is the right section to post.

took car for maintenance and dealer told me my drive belt is cracked and needs to be replaced ASAP

quoted me $300. Was wondering what are some better options or if its safer to go OEM on this? Car is a 2004 manual coupe

thanks

yep, do you think its wiser to buy the drive belt from the dealership and take it to my mechanic or buy the drive belt else where?

I would go to an auto parts store and buy both belts since u are getting it done unless your other belt is new and take them to a mechanic to get them done..

Buy the oem belts and take it to a local shop...the oem belts are great and typically last about 100k unless over tightened

Forget going to the autoparts stores like one member suggested, OE belts are the very best! Buy the belt and have your local mechanic install it. You should have asked the guy that quoted you $300 if you had, "stupid written on your forehead"....that's really bad.

Belts are one of the things you definitely want to get OEM quality, don't want Dayco, grayco, whatever lol because if they are faulty and snap......... bad things happen

I've owned about a dozen cars in my lifetime and I must say, "so true". I've seen some seriously cheap-@ss aftermarket belts. Just get them shipped from Grubbs in Texas, end of story.
