20 minutes.

they weren't that bad so I did not do 1000 and 1500, I just did 2000 and 3000 and polished after that.

not sure how hazed yours are, but mine had some oxidation and were hazy too.
i used the Sylvania headlight restore kit ($20), and the results were amazing!!
they supply the sand paper and all the solutions needed (compound, "cleanser", lacquer) .
not a brand new look, but way better that what i had before.. took out some other road chips that were in there too....

Problem solved. I did not even have to sand mine, just used the first suggested method on directions..
If that fails, then you sand....

You just sand until everything "feels" uniform, then step up to the next grit. They won't be clear again until polish. So they will stay hazy up to the polish stage.

you know whats funny... I tried this on my bucket, a 2000 Plymouth Neon. (Don't ask, I got it for 500 running with a/c ) But, it did work to my surprise. On my Neon, the headlights was so crusty light wouldnt even shine though, it only lights up like a lamp shade cover thing.
I read it online btw if anyone was wondering I would not do it ever again. Just sayin

Go to advance auto parts and buy turtle's headlight restorer I think is the name. It comes with little sanding pads and liquid compound ur lights will look like new. It has a sealing spray too so it last longer best option u have. The price is 10.99$ better than buying new headlights. I did it too mine 2 weeks ago they look like new good luck man

sorry if this was already suggested i didnt read thru this thread....

i recondition headlights... sand them down all the way start off with 500 grit depending on how bad it is then work you way up to 1200 grit until you get all that gunk then it should be completely foggy and smooth, then clear coat them two medium coats shoulf be good. trust me it will be brand new after that.

that auto zone./pepboys stuff only work for a bit then actually make the lights worse. the clear coating of the lights are permanent. if its done right then itll last for 5-7 years.. make sure you hit the edges real good bc thats where the start pealing first after a while if you dont prep it right.

hope this helps!
