You'll find that opinion here and there, and he's correct about Inginiti not recommending synthetics in our Coupes. It does say so in the manual.

But many here (including me) have gone ahead with it's use in favour of better protection, lower friction, and better economy.

As with any oil, it's wise to keep close tabs on oil levels and keep it topped off.

If your dealership frowns on it's use tho., you'd best go along with their wishes or they'll deny warranty, and you'll have a heck of a fight on your hands. Not fun.

Yet another reason not to trust the people in the service department. My service guy looked at me like I was from Mars when I showed him the bottle of Redline diff oil I wanted him to put in He refused to change it and I ended up doing it myself, the stuff that came out was dark gray and very nasty. Now the car runs 100% better in the cold mornings. Bottom line is the service guys don't give a crap about your car, they just follow blindly what infiniti tells them.

Synthetics are fine, but according to popular belief you shouldn't make the switch until the engine has at least 15-20k on the dial. I'm waiting until I hit 20k then going Mobile-1.

I agree, stay away from synthetic for a while yet. Regarding the diff and trans, I replaced my diff and manual trans fluid with Redline fluids at 2200 miles to get the shavings out. It shifts so silky and slick right now I can't imagine the '05 shifting any slicker even with the mods Infiniti made for '05 to the manual transmission! My 6MT has never grinded a gear since I bought the car. There were a LOT of metal shavings stuck to the magnet in the diff!

At one point I had asked about switching to synthetics also. The service rep. informed me that it wasn't worth the extra $$$ due to Infiniti using a synthetic blend from the factory. Hmmm, gotta love the variety of opinions from dealer to dealer.

I bring my Mobil1 oil and filter with me to the dealership and have no problems. I switched at 7500 miles.

when you say lifetime oil changes...at what intervals do they allow? i'm sure you couldn't go in every 3000 miles and them change it for free. or am i wrong?

Really!? **** I thought it said TO run synt or you could have warranty issues. I must be wrong though, going to read the manual again. Thanks for the heads up.

For some reason when it comes to synthetic, the old saying "opinions are like a$$holes" really comes into play.

It's as much a mistake to take advice from a service rep as if he's knowledgeable as it would be to get medical advice from an attorney.

Cars don't burn oil with synthetic, and you don't have to wait 15-20k miles. Those are my a$$hole opinions.

Not sure which oil you are refering to but.....
Do NOT change the AT tranny oil.
If you use anything but the Nissan oil you will void your warrantee.
Apparently it is a synyh or a synth blend specificaly formulated for out ATs.

the rep isnt all wrong, synthetics(spelling) have a tendency to cause ur engine to burn more oil, maybe because it is thinner and etc compared to DINO oil but most people agree synth is better for performance, economy and protection.

I had been in for a standard 3k motor oil change. Perhaps the rep. was confused about what oil I wanted to switch. So the question is, what oil is in my car right now? Does the dealer decide ?
