crankshaft rear seal

so I took my car to my mechanic because I've been on noticing oil leak, turns out to be the seal between the engine and transmission. has anyone had this done before? he also said that i have to get the tranny fluid drained, does the auto tranny have a drqin plug? because i recently had it drained and filled and i feell unnecessary to repurchase the transmission fluid again. how risky is this job? im sorry im just a little nervous...this car has been good to me so far

Crankshaft seal requires removal of oil pan, transmission, torque converter and flexplate. It could be done with engine installed but time consuming and pricey to pay someone.

Why is the mechanic recommending tranny fluid changed ?

Transmission pan does have a drain plug. Not risky to drain/add transfluid if filled to proper level.

he recommends getting the tranny fluid changed since its been about 30k miles since i have last done it. i was thinking of picking up a few quarts at nissan anyways. anything else i should buy?
