Need help, bout to be trading for a 2003 G35.. What to look for, is it worth it?

Hey guys, well i've been looking to buy a g35 for quite some time now. I was orignally going to sell my 2003 Rav4 and then afterwards but a G35 but now I have found an offer to trade for my car. He has a 2003 Infiniti G35 with 98k 5AT (Tiptronic) fully loaded (navi, boss system, etc etc) and is interested in trading for my 2003 Toyota rav4 with 85k on the chassis and 40k on the engine ($3500 expense unfortunately). You guys think it's worth it? If yes, what are some tips to be looking at when I go to exchange cars?

Thanks guys!

Post some pictures of the G35 you are thinking about trading your rav4 with.

In my area, (Portland OR) 03 G35 coupes with 120K(ish) miles were selling private party (Craigslist) for 11.5 - 10K with clean titles in good condition. I would look up Kelly Blue Book on both the G35 and Yours.

vehicles with Salvaged / reconstructed were 10k - 8K

I'm also very Leary of dealers. They are in business to make $$ so they will always make deals that are in their favor. If you are in no rush try and sell your RAV4 privately. Take your time and find the right G35 and get a carfax.

Your Rav4 probably appeals to a much larger audience and the dealer is thinking it will be much easier to sell than the G35.

If you want ti sooner than later, talk to a bank or credit union about a loan as auto rates are super low right now. 10K @ 36months at 3% is like "roughly" $300 a month

If they are about the even price wise and you want the G35 I say trade.

I would get a carfax of the G35. It will show # of owners, Accidents, services etc... You may may find something to give you some additional bargaining power? Maybe you could negotiate it where they give you the G35 + cash as they will most likely have an easier time selling the Rav4.

A bit of advice though their are some common things to look for on the G35.
Test the power Windows and see if they work smoothly. Window Motors are common / going to fail but are easily repaired. Not a matter of if but when

See if the power locks work. Mine work about half the time. Don't have enough grunt to move the lock completely. Again another very common issue.

Also listen for any wheel bearing noise, These only last around 50 - 75K miles in most cases. (I'm currently replacing my Right Rear at 64K. )

They are great looking cars and are really fun to drive!

I got an auto check of the car and in fact it did come clean. I really want one but I'm not sure if its worth it having almost 100k, that's what I'm a little weary about.

Car looks good other then the front lights. Will probably get them looking brand new with a headlight restoration kit for $20.

The only issue I have with my 03 6mt is the power locks. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. but in reality it doesnt matter that much. car locks every time using remote.

finally, you stated your current car is valued at around 13k, well, for 13k even if you dont trade with this guy, any other g you find will have the same mileage for that price.

Personally would you do it? Or would you just wait to find something with lower millage (And add money if necessary?) Here is a picture of my car so you guys get an idea.

The head lights on the G look HORRID. I guess that gives you a reason to swap em for the 06 head lights? ;D But.. a 100k G.. I wouldn't trust too much. I'd rather sell the rav4 and put some cash on top for one with less milage.

You will be able to buy a stock G35 for that price. If you dont think you can sell your rav4 for that price than by all means trade away. If you can privately sell your rav4 for 13-15k I say do that. Then you can find a g35 that has around the same miles, but all stock. I think its a lot better to buy a car all stock than a car that already has rims and mods done to it. Check tires, check ac, check windows, check engine (make sure theres no crappy ebay short ram in it with a hole <-- happened to me). check door locks and check any sounds you hear if you go at speeds higher than 40. Goodluck man. G35 is a really nice car youre going to want to fix it up a lot after getting it. It's tempting after the first mod.
