oil filter/oil change

im at 7500 miles so im going to do my second oil change and start on synthetics. my main question to you guys is did you buy a new copper gasket
for the oil pan nut? can you pick them up at nissan or is there some other way to get them besides at infiniti?

I hear Nissan sells them for $0.74 whereas Infiniti sells the same ones two times the price but I'm not sure because when I bought my oil filters at Infiniti, it came with the drain plug gasket already attached on the bottom end of the box.

IMHO it is always better to change out the drain bolt gasket to prevent any oil leaks or possible stripping of the oil pan threads. Sometimes if I forget to buy some flat copper drain plug gaskets for my other cars, I just wipe them clean and reuse it. So far no oil leaks or problems here. As long as you don't over torque the drain plug, you should be okay. Many people change them out and many don't. It's really up to you but it's only $0.74 for cheap maintenance.

Very well said. Its not a must have, so I wouldn't stress about it. But its good to change it once in a while if you remember to get it when you pick up your oil filter. I just bought a lot at once, I think I have like a dozen in a bag.

Why bother with the drain plug at all? Just get a fumoto valve.
