Body Shop is Trying to Install My Sport '05 Lip on a Sport '06 Bumper

Hey fellow enthusiast. Here's my current issue that i need help with.

Last week I had put my G35 '05 Sport Coupe into the body shop to get some painting done. I purchased a new front bumper since the old one had a bad crack in it. The replacement bumper is an '06-'07 Sport bumper.

Today, I received and email stating the lip on the '05 bumper is cracked and needs to be fixed prior to installing it on the sport bumper.

I called and emailed the body shop alerting them that there is no need to use the lip from the old bumper, since the new bumper has a built-in lip. The shop owner stated that he knows, but figured I would want to add the lip since it doesn't have that special '05 flare and stance. I proceeded to ask if the '05 lip will even fit on the '06 Sport bumper. He stated it should and will send me pictures later on today.

I'm still wondering if the lip will fit and even if it did, should I install it? I think the new '06 Sport bumper will grow on me in due time. What should I do? Thanks.

i dont think it will. jus sell the lip someone here will want it. plus the lip is abs and not as flexible as aftermarket poly so forcing it on will not be a good idea imo

Thank you. I just sent a emailing explaining that would rather just go with the bumper without the added lip. I wish I had a ride to go out there to see what going on in person, I have to wait until Thursday.

Thanks a lot.

It's OEM. Here's a pic of the crack. Only time will tell if I sell it. Waiting to hear from the shop and get my car back.

Alright well just let me know. Is the damage bad, or can it be fixed? Can't really tell by the picture.

you should have made them add it. Would have been the first 06 bumper w/ a 05 lip.

I don't think it would fit. Unless they MADE it fit and in all honesty, I think the sport bumper looks good just as it is.

It's not bad, it was very unnoticeable when it was on the car.

The crack did go through, but has been like that for over a year now.

Same thing i said to myself as well. I need to get over there asap, and see whats going on. The shop is a two hour train ride, or 35 minutes by car.

Thanks.

Yea, I gotta go through the NYC subway system, then hop on the LIRR to Long Island.

The body shop is a forum supporter at another G35 local forum.

i say just sell the lip to someone on here, because if the shop cant make it fit then the lip is ruined.
