Hi everyone,

I just bought a 2006 G35 6MT yesterday and been researching for long time about the errors I got (VDC off, Slip, Tire Pressure light, and RAS). I know there's bunch of threads but I could not get a good indication.

Here's the mods that I know 1) Magnaflow cat back exhaust and 2) 20" aftermarket rims (245/35/20 and 275/30/20).


The owner told me he only got the codes show up after installing the new rims and tires. I've been told the that it was checked by his mechanics and Nissan which they could not find the issue that caused the VDC, Slip, tire pressure and RAS).

Today, I ran an ODBII test and absolutely nothing showed up and all the brakes are good. If it a sensor was faulty wouldn't the ODBII scan pick it up?

I topped off the brake fluid and pulled the negative off the battery for 20 mins but the codes are still there. Also, the owner got the wheel bearing changed last week.

Here's what I found out today that there were no tire sensors so I booked an appointment to swap them in the 20" rims. Would this help to clear the codes?

no tire sensors only check for air pressurel. not related

Any idea what it would be if the ODBII scanner didn't pick up anything?

Take it to the dealership and have then run for codes. It will be more than a regular mechanic but you will not be guessing and wasting ur time and money.

 

IIRC, the size of the new wheel/tire setup must be within a certain percentage of the OEM setup or it will trigger the VDC/SLIP/ABS lights .

 

Tires must be less than 3% different in diameter from each other (F/R) to keep the VDC happy. Has nothing to do with original diameter, but the OP's set up in only 1.2% (26.51" vs 26.81")different so that shouldn't be an issue.

 

Yeah i check the tires using http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html which I got from one of the posts here and they should be ok according to the site.

I just booked my appointment with Nissan.

If the OBDII not picking up anything, does that mean it shouldn't be anything major??? I really don't want to dish out tons of $ since I just got this car. Any thought??

 

you wont be able to get any of those codes with a normal scanner, you need professional scanner like a snap on solus, but thats like $5000 so might as well just take it to the dealer

What's the chances or it being a minor problem? I just don't want to freak out after the diagnoses.

 

It's hard to guess without looking at the car but it could be an abs sensor or the abs module, sounds like something with the brake system

 

Yeah I'm hoping for something small if anything. Would order the parts myself and either I install it or have my mechanic to do it.

I will post on Monday what they say and resort to this forum because I never dealt with my local Nissan shop. Heard lots of horror stories on here about the crazy quotes and technical advices they have.

 

Maybe try to reset the ecu and see if the codes come back?

 

i've pulled the battery for 20 minutes and it didn't clear anything

 

one of the wheel sensors could be bad? you can test them with a volt meter ,but since you already setup the appointment i would just see what codes nissan pulls.
