I am not really that picky, but I just think the stock reverse light just isn't really bright enough to illuminate the surrounding at night when I back up my car?

Which bulb is a good replacement for the stock bulb that will can really light up when backing up?

I even looked at the HID back up light but they were $200!

Should I go with the one single Cree 7W or the 8 SMD LEDs?

Anyone has any experience with these bulbs?

 

none of the plug in bulbs are going to project light outwards. Take the bulb out and look at it and you'll see why.

It point upwards so if you got the projector one, it would just point up and have barely enough light to light up the lens. I just got some with 360 leds mainly to just light up the lens good. you could make or buy a 90 degree socket but will have to get creative.

 

HID reverse lights are not practical. Most HID's require about a minute to reach full intensity. Good (basically only factory) HID kits get to about 80% of full intensity in 5-10 seconds. Most aftermarket kits take 20-30 seconds or more just to reach that 80% mark.

How long do you typically spend in reverse? I usually spend no more than 5-10 seconds. Because of this, an HID kit for reverse isn't practical.

I actually used these bulbs from v-leds. They are definitely brighter than the stock bulbs, but not by a really significant amount, just enough to be noticeable. However, they are much whiter, so I actually see more. I have dark tint on my rear window so it was important to me to have as much light out of the reverse bulbs as possible. The downside here is obviously the cost.

 

I installed HID reverse bulbs and ballests this early spring. The startup time is very short , with no excess heat to damage the tailight. My driveway is about 200' long, uphill and about 1.5 miles from the nearest streetlight. My house is next to the driveway, so the HIDs help make sure that I don't hit anything. I'm very happy and only paid $80 for the lights

Sorry, don't know how to do photos to computer. Lights are plug and play. Put ballests behind trunk fabric by the tailights. Install took about 30 min. I had LEDs before. They looked great, but didn't put out any distance for light. My house is about 40 ft before the garage, so being able to see is important. I wish I could do a link to the vender, but (again) I don't know how to.

If I were you, I'd just hit up one of the vendors for bulbs and save yourself the hassle. Ask for what you need and they'll make sure you get the right one. I just ordered a bunch from Statik and the price wasn't that bad.
