Thanks guys for all the input, you don't know how much I appreciate it. I checked the KBB and it's saying the G35 price ranges within 25,xxx and 31,100. I'm pretty sure that would be a car in excellent condition for the latter price. So far I've found that it has all options except for Navi - unless I overlooked something. Oh and it's a 5AT.

The only thing is that these G35 coupes sell so fast and are so hard to find in my area which is Kentucky. The sedans are pretty abundant but a used coupe? Pretty rare. We've been looking for roughly 2 months now and have only found 5 used coupes.

So it seems that the general consensus is that this G we're looking at is priced too high - I tend to agree but wanted to be sure. What is the most you guys would pay if given my situation but knowing what you know now? I humbly ask that you be realistic in an answer if you choose to give one. I'm trying to keep our emotions out of the buying process. Thanks guys, AC

Did you guys ask where he is from before saying it isnt a good deal? As Ive posted before, here in PR, G35c's get taxed as luxury cars (any cars priced above $40,000.00 are and that's exactly the sticker price for them) That means the dealer price for a new G35c is anywhere between $52,000.00-$54,000.00. With that said, my '03 6MT with 8500 miles I bought 2 months ago, was a bargain at $34,000.00.

You should be able to buy an '03 with 15k miles for around $27-$28 easy.

FYI - your sig says midnight blue, but the color produced in 04 is actually called twilight blue. Good color choice though, I have the same!

30K out the door is what I spent last week. 03 6mt, included 18" wheels and Brembos. You are right they are tough to find. I had two sell out from under me. I was considering using a broker to find my car, but got lucky. I used tips I read off this forum to get the price I was looking for. Thanks everyone.

Well guys, we didn't buy the G35 just to update all who helped me. I was able to talk the salesman down to 29,988 from 31,9xx. I'm sure I could've squeezed a few hundred more out of him maybe even another grand. But the car had a bunch of chips in the hood that had been retouched that I didn't notice when I looked at it a few days ago (looked like tree sap all over the hood). Also, there was a quarter size dent in the passenger fender that I did notice during the first look but I figured I could have it fixed (I know someone who owns a body shop). Apparently, someone else noticed and tried to fix it and made it look worse - looks like a big rust spot now. I just couldn't live with having on my mind, "We just bought a 30K '03 and had the fender and hood repainted!)

So I humbly explained to him that we weren't rich and that 30k (minus taxes and licensing) was still an awful lot to pay for something with such cosmetic defects. We work hard for our money and want the best that (the little we have) can buy and I'm sure most agree. At some of your advice, I looked at the 04 and 05 prices and see that with just a little more, we can have peace of mind of what we bought. Because had we bought that car, after the royalty of it wore off, those cosmetic defects would be very annoying. I guess I'm just ****. What do you all think? Did I make a mistake by walking away from that price? He also was going to give us 1K more for our trade-in than what the blue book was saying it was worth. Thoughts? Thanks again, AC

You made the right move walking away from that deal. I walked away from a used 04 loaded coupe that was going to be in almost perfect shape with 17k miles at that same price. I ended up with an 05 coupe just below invoice from the same dealer. Much happier.

However at the end of your post you introduced the trade. That could be a factor. Getting KBB on a trade is a challenge. What do you have and what was he offering?

Also where are you located?

Kevin

29,988 aint bad, but i bet you could go lower. 15k miles is pretty low for an 03...heck the engine probably has 185,000 miles left in it

i bought my 03 6MT coupe loaded with all options at the end of august for 28,850. it had 16003 miles at the time. as a rule of thumb, you should ALWAYS be able to talk a dealer down at least 5% from their initial price, which you have already done. i would try to have them pay for the body repairs & paint at no additional cost to you.

you might also go on ebay and search for '2003 infiniti g35'. look at the "buy it now" prices and try to make some comparisons between those cars (options & mileage-wise) and the one you're looking at. that ought to give you some more ammunition.

What do you have and what was he offering?
It's my wife's car and it's a 2000 Concorde LX. KBB said 5,090. He was offering to give me another grand - so 6,090. Never knew a car could depreciate so much!

I also live in Louisville, KY.

i would try to have them pay for the body repairs & paint at no additional cost to you.
They offered that also, but it's just the fact that I would be paying 30K for something that had to be repainted. No one else would know but I would - my wife agreed whole heartedly. I'd rather spend a little more for new and know that everything is "virgin".

It's post from members like the two above that inspired me to believe that I can get better. Used to be I would opt for less than expected to save a penny. But the end result would be regret.

I'm selling my MINT 2004.5 6MT Black on Black, Premium, Full Aero kit, Navigation, Brembos w/ 11K if anyone is interested PM me.
Sorry, nice car I'm convinced but red rocks!
Thanks again guys

I just purchased a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT fully loaded nav, sun roof, spoiler, etc and it cost me 38k. Of course a 03 isn't worth 30k+ unless they have added a lot to the performance. I personally am thinking of adding a ProCharger to mine, just so I can jam 450hp at the wheel.
