Weird wheel and suspension issues

04 G Coupe with Brembos- 83K miles

Issue #1

1. Last summer, weird click sound coming from the right rear 18s when there is a change in momentum of the car

2. Winter time- installed 17" 350z wheels with snows- clicking went away

3. This year- switched back to summers and the clicking is back.

Any ideas?

Issue #2

There is a weird clunking noise coming from the rear when car is moving slowly over slightly bumpy surfaces. Maybe suspension?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hopefully someone knows what's going on here. I have an, I'm assuming, similar clunk from the rear end, only on the passenger's side, when going over uneven surfaces (mostly noticeable over speed bumps, etc.)

My first thought was that maybe the bushings on the spring perches were worn. I recently replaced the front lower inner control arm bushings, and the front end of the car went from feeling like it was going to blow up over bumps on the highway to a dull "thud" over most of them.

Edit: Any chance you could somehow get a video of the clicking? It's hard to say, because there are lots of issues that have caused Nissans to click in the past.

Hmm... My first initial thought of the clicking in the rear was the axles. Not sure why changing wheels would change that though...

Any possibility that the 17's muffle the sound due to a smaller diameter barrel/more rubber in the rear end covering the sound up?

Sounds strange, but...weird things happen every day.

Honestly I doubt it. From my experiences, axle clicking is pretty distinct haha.

+1 for Sway Bar Endlinks. If you see dry rot on any endlink boots it's safe to assume they need changed.

check your endlinks

sway bar links go in every car and it seems common to go in g35s in the rear pretty early u can check it by trying to pull or push on it and see if theres looseness also the strut mount could also be gone clunking probably coming from the links and the clicking im not sure ud know if it was an axle and changing the tires wouldnt effect it really but one time on a kia sedona i was trying to diagnose a clicking noise and it ended up being the tires breaking apart that was a tough one to figure out lol

Thanks guys. I watched a couple vids on my350z regarding the axle click, and it seems like I need to fix that issue using the TSB DIY. It has to be it.

As for the clunk, it only happens when going very slowly <20mph and only coming from the rear. I'm starting to think that it is either the sway bar endlinks from what people have experienced or bushings. Will confirm later this week. Hopefully have some vids if possible.

Axle click is really easy to fix, just follow the DIY and you'll be fine. Having an extra pair of hands helps (makes the job go faster) but aren't necessary.

2004 2dr 6mt w/ Brembos & Sport Package.

I have a weird rattling/clunking noise from the passenger rear wheel. I wouldn't say it's a clicking though. It happens at slow speeds (like 40 mph and under) It seems to rattle and then clunk/thud over bumps. But as soon as I get onto the highway it's pretty smooth…?

I recently had both of the rear shocks replaced and the noise was still there after. I took it back to the mechanic and he said everything seemed fine and should be quiet. As soon as I got out onto the road, I found it was still making noise!

No idea...
