Buying High Milage G35 200k Miles. What To Expect.
#16
Amen, to that. Please don't let the guys with high mileage cars stir you wrong. I bought my 2K Se Max new, did tons of maintenance, at 200K, it's decline started. Now granted, I still own it and will replace the engine this year but, unless you bought the car new (like I did), there's absolutely NO GUARANTEE that all the maintenance needed has been done. Granted, this site has changed since day one so, it's different people with different income making exactly opposite suggestions of how this site got started. One thing to keep in mind, the car is still a $40K original m.s.r.p., kinda high to maintain if your pinching pennies. Not a good choice if that's the case.

I see no point in buying a car with that many miles on it unless it's a diesel.
You could get a G35/350Z with 120-140K miles on it for probably only like $2K less than one with 200K miles on it and you're likely to end up keeping it for 4 or 5 more years than one bought with 200K miles on it. The risk far outweighs the benefit in this situation.
If you're going to spend 7-9K on a car and have it be your main transportation, you'll be better off getting a slightly more common/middle-of-the-road car rather than buying something that is sporty and nice (when new) that is going to be an unreliable and short-lived money pit. You can buy a pretty decent used car for that much money that will last you years with proper maintenance.

I'd say buying a car with 200k+ is too risky unless you know the owner and know it was well maintained. As a poor college student like yourself, you'd be better served spending that money on a older Civic or Corolla until you're out of college and have a job.
Just my 2 cents...

There's no fun in that .. The time to drive a nice car matters the most when you're younger haha. I bet that when I'm done with college and I have a family and etc.. then I probably won't care as much about what I drive lolol
Still think that it's pointless though to get a car with that high mileage unless you have a good amount of money set aside to take care of it.

dealer wanted 12.5k for my 03 coupe fully loaded 6mt brembos with 106k lowered and 06 rays, tint awesome shape. I eneded up paying 10.75k for it, keep looking dude. They are out there, thats alot IMO for that new of a car. But 200k easy miles compared to 50k wot blasts/burnouts/donughts/5k launhces is different too.

I say you have it looked it and as long as they can provide service records for you to shows its been maintained and taken care of, go for it. Just make sure you have some "rainy day" money lying around though in case something does happen. And just familiarize yourself with your G after you get it and get to know other G owners that can help save you monies mechanically. Hope you find one you like! Let us know!
