New Owner - Problem under the hood
New Owner - Problem under the hood
I searched in the forums and couldn't find anything relating.
Last night I was gas-ing up my '04 g35 6mt and I popped the hood to see how dirty the engine was. The car has about 700 miles right now.
On the silver plastic middle part of the engine that says 3.5 V6, there was a shiny liquid covering it. After i touched it, it felt like it was an oil of some sort.
It was on the black plastic surrounding the silver inside too. At the front of the engine (the part closest to the front grill) it actually started collecting where the silver and black plastic parts met.
is this normal??? or any ideas on where it came from?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like some type of detail oil. Lots of times after a cars been detailed they will spray this greasy engine shine crap all over it. Looks ok till all the dirt starts to cling to it.
My new Coupe had a thin coat of some clearish oily type stuff on top of the air intakes and on the plenum cover. Sounds like the same stuff you're talking about. I wiped it off and it hasn't come back. Must have been the dressing the factory put on the engine as mentioned above.

It's prolly detailing fluid, but just to be sure, check the oil level and make sure it's up to proper level.
If you clean it up and it returns, then you may have a leak. Dealer time.
