What type of oil do you Reccommend

Getting right to the point. Which type of oil do you reccommend for using in my 04 6MT? I use standard in my 04 Kawasaki 636, Synthetic in my 2000 F150, but what about my new Infinity. Synthetic or Standard? Some say Mobile, Others Royal Purple, etc... I now everyone is going to have thier own opinion, but can I be safe with Royal Purple or is it a waste of money? I never used it before, but a friend of mine lives for it.

I wouln't spend the extra on the synthetics unless u race or drive super hard daily!
Every 3k oil changes should suffice.

A lot of people recommend to wait until 10k miles before switching to synth. do a SEARCH to read about oil questions. There are probably 800 of them here.

IMO- I have been a fan of Mobil 1, since 1986.
I started in my Grand AM 136,+++ when I sold it, never used more than 1/2 qt. between changes.
1991 Maxima, 183,+++ when sold, NEVER used a drop between changes.
1996 Maxima, 153,+++, still going, none added between changes.
2001 Acura, 100,+++, Wife is still driving, uses less than 1/2 qt. between changes.
So....
I change oil and filter at 5,000 miles.

You definately want to wait to switch to synthetic until after 10K miles or more! I personally use Mobil 1, have for years, but Amsoil is great oil as well!

Just so you know........it's Infiniti...........not Infinity! I did that too on my first post on this forum

I changed my oil to synthetic at the 1st oil change. Why whould you wait until 10k? Will it hurt my engine if I changed it too early? Oh well too late now.

From another post earlier today:

Break in period is a very controversial topic and quite subjective? I personally think that the first thousand miles is KEY to be nice to the car, keep the revs down, no hard shifting and keep steady RPM's to a minmum. Change the oil the first time at 500 miles no matter what anyone says! Keeping the oil clean and fresh I believe is key to proper breakin and ONLY use petrolium based oil, not even a synthetic mix. Using Synthetic oil too soon has been proven to prevent piston rings from properly seating and cause more blowbye. I will not use synthetic oil until atleast 10K miles on any car and I do not believe that these cars will maximize their HP potential until after that as well! As far as romping on it..................give it 3K!

Take the Syn out and put in pertolium for a few thousand......that is what I would do if I were you?

It won't necessarily hurt the motor, but you will be down on HP not having allowed the rings to seat properly and probably burn a bit more oil due to blowbye!

I would also recommend switching to syn at 10k- then try a few different oils and do used oil analyses to determine which is best for your engine and driving style.

Drag race motors

Back in the old days the way of thinking was fast motors had fast break ins.
You never loaded an engine But you sure as hell gave it a good run up in the RPM,S And the best way to break in the rings and bore was with Non detergent oil. The biggest trick was to add a 1/3 qt of tranny fluid. Tranny fluid has a way of cleaning parts. The first 20 mins of a dyno there was an oil change. My grand father had a way about him and let me tell you My first car was a 1971 z/28 camaro r/s 4/gear and was running 13.40 quarter mile runs
stock. If you would like to have me you tell you more pm me. PS The old guys know there stuff. Damm IM old now butt I still love cars. G35-6mt coming Feb 2005 and trust me I know how to break it in. Dennis

My first oil change was at 7000 miles. I converted to Mobil 1 and so far so good. I think I'm actually getting better gas mileage since. I drive about 40 highway miles about 5 times a week so I will change oil every 7500 miles.

I switched to mobil 1 at 3000 miles. No oil consumption issues, at 12,000 some miles now....
