Dealer prep fee?
Dealer prep fee?
Hi all, i just signed on my coupe, picking it up tomorrow morning.
Just wondering if anyone has paid this miscellaneous charge?????????????????
It was $160 and it was pre-printed on the paper (not typed) so i guess its a standard thing at my dealer.
He said it includes the $$ for all the paperwork and the dealer prep and cleaning.....so i dunno, i thought the MSRP takes care of that.....anyway i got 6MT/DG/Willow w/ splashgaurds and trunk mat w/ logo $32,600+taxes title etc. = about $35000
cant wait to drive it off the lot tomorrow!!!!!!

Re: Dealer prep fee?
IT'S A SCAM!!! All dealerships are doing this now. What dealer did you purchase from? I ordered from South Motors and their fee is $499. I was able to get mine for MSRP and no dealer fee.

Re: Dealer prep fee?
Guys: Not EVERY dealer does this, but it may be a regional thing, with clusters of places selling ALL marques with "dealer prep charges" of $150 to $250. I bought my coupe at Kirkland Infiniti in the Seattle area, and didn't have to pay a penny over MSRP. But before that, I did come across dealers in Arizona, Oregon, and California that were adding mandatory charges like yours (and worse), including the infamous "protection package," mandatory tinting, and mandatory LoJack installation. 160 bucks ain't bad, but I'm really pleased about a dealership that was straight with me from day one about NO charges at all. Even the closer-guy in the back room offered me a BETTER interest rate than the salesman and I had agreed upon, and that I was prepared to pay in the first place. I wouldn't fret about 160 bucks, but when it's 500 or 1000 or 2000 or even more, then I'm headed elsewhere.
BTW, you will LOVE this car!

Oh Yeah Almost Forgot Rambo, I think the Smile on your face when you go the pick up your G will erase all trace of the pain in your wallet, hell whats another 160 bucks right. Have fun for those of us still waiting tomorrow and Good Luck!!
Re: Dealer prep fee?
RR, I believe hold back from the manufacturer to the dealer is covers these types of 'costs of doing business'. If I recollect, Infiniti pays 2% on MSRP. Typically, hold back is usually around 3%. I obtained this information doing general research on the web and Consumer Reports. I would think you could push back but as Gforce1 said, the smile should take care of any heart burn. Check your paperwork for the final numbers you were expecting to pay. ...dean

Holdback is designed to help the dealer finance the vehicle on the showroom floor, and nothing else. (The dealer has to make monthly payments and pay interest on cars that just take up space for too long.)
Prep fees are included in MSRP. It should not be an additional charge. Advertising fees are also bogus.

Re: Dealer prep fee?
I paid MSRP for my car but the dealer did try to sneak one by me. However, I happen to be a person who reads everything before I sign! . When I was signing the final papers, I saw a charge for $400 for some kind of "title service" (instead of DMV). I asked what the hell is this, and the Closer said, oh you don't have to have it if you don't want it. I said take it off & they did. Otherwise, the dealer was straight with me. My car came with wheel locks, carpeted floor mats, and no extra trunk mat. Paid MSRP.
