Yes you loose chassis rigidity and also add weight for bracing the undercarige for the increased stress it will see.
There are few exceptions that dont loose much rigidity in convertible form, one that is very notable is the C5 Corvette, it was designed in converitble form. However, it too is not as rigid as the hardtop Z06 but is not as far from it as most convertibles are.
Just look at how weak the C4 vette is, and then in convertible form, it is pitiful. Thank goodness for the C5 and i cant wait for the C6

Convertible model with Z4 seats? hahaha interesting.. Well.. the G35 is no good in cabrio. The butt is too big. [img]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/img]
Coupe is the best. You guys seen the 350z convertible. well even that is a bit weird i think, looking too much like a boxter. anyway.. once a coupe should always be a coupe.
Unless a hardtop convertible is optionized.
