Diifferential Oil change???

Hey guys,

im going to get my oil change this week , how often do you guys reccomend doing an engine flush? they always reccommend it to me but ive only done it once when i first got the car. Also last time they told me that they would reccommend changing the differential oil. is this neccassary or just something theyre trying to add on? please advise! thanks!

How many miles on the car? I change MT tranny and diff fluid every 30K miles so it certainly wouldn't hurt to have them do it.

When I first got my car it was hard actually to turn the rear wheels with the car in the air, after changing diff fluid, wheels turned smoothly, car seemed to accelerate smoother also.

Ive never done anything like this so please excuse the possible stupid question but:

Is it fairly easy and cheaper to change trans and diff fluids yourself or is it better to pay someone to do it for you?

my car has 80k on it and i'm not sure if it has ever been done so im just going to go ahead and have it done, i guess transmission fluid as well while im at it. as for price im not sure , i used to change all teh fluids on my old Honda myself but thats a diff story, i think i would just pay someone to do it and watch and learn, instead of doing it myself since im not that aquinted with the car myself.

It's easy. Just need a few basic tools and a fluid pump.

If you used to change all the fluids on your honda then you should have no issue changing the Fluids in a diff.

Undo Top Plug, undo bottom, wait for it to drain, tighten bottom plug, fill through top plug with gear pump(sold at auto part stores) until it starts to drip out, about 1.5quarts. Done.

You should not have any issue.

^ I agree, do not pay someone to do this simple job. Also, to know when to change your fluids, simply refer to your maintenance schedule.

Atonal, if you've changed fluids on your Honda doing the same on your G35 should be easy. A few hand tools and the pump will get the job done and I suggest using Red Line or AMSOIL synthetic gear fluids for the best results. All fluids s/b changed in our cars every 30K miles. You didn't mention if you had a MT or AT but any mechanic can handle that for you and I'd use OE trans fluid if you have a AT. How bout the radiator, that s/b next....Gary

just make sure if your lsd you get the right stuff,
and i like the royal purple best, but as long as its royal purple amsoil or redline you are getting great fluid

^ Common misconception.

Our Diffs are VLSD which stands for Viscous Limited Slip Differential, the LSD portion is contained in a viscous coupling inside the diff. The Type of fluid you buy has no impact on the functionality of the VLSD.

Any Quality GL-5 Gear oil will suffice.
