G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
Hi, I made a deposit on a g35 coup+leather+performance package which should arrive in 14 days or so (strait from the factory). I have some last min tough questions hopefully someone can answer.
1. Can the bose 6cd changer play MP3 cds (I did read something about digital signal processing)?
2. Should I worry about previous problems people are having since supposedly they should be fixed by now (window grease/cd stuck error/headlight problem)?
3. Can you buy the tire/wheel (18inch+slip differential) at any time even after you have driven the car for awhile?
4. Will the AWD model be greatly better than the standard RWD model (I live in Cali, so not worried about weather)
5. Will the AWD model cost more then the regular coupe and if so, how much, (rough guesses fine)
6. Will the AWD model come out in 04 (one website said yes)
7. Will I get tons of chicks driving this car?
Thanks for any responses I get, thats all the questions I could think of at the moment.

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
Dude, yer last question cracked me up, so lemme try what I know -
-The CD Player plays CD-R/RW, so if you make yer own mix from yer CD burner on your PC, the CD player should handle it fine.
- And yes, chicks. Those that drive nice cars will definately admire yours.
- Dont know much about the AWD. I live in Chicago, so it woulda been nice, but all I know is AWD adds a hella lot of weight to the car, so they better pump up the HP big time it they're gonna offer AWD...
-You can't buy a "slip differential" after you buy the car. They can (anyone can) put 18" tires on yer car.
- The "grease on the window" is a real deal. I still can't believe how few address it (maybe they don't roll down their windows?). Anyways, the TSB is ITB03-21, and Infiniti will fix it for free

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
Appreciate your quick responses,
Regarding Q1: I was wondering about MP3 cds as opposed to just standard car audio playable cds. Mp3s are compressed and you can fit 100-200 of them on a cd whereas on standard cds you can only fit 13-15. It comes with a 6cd changer so its not that big of a deal. They sell MP3 player discmans so I figured it might be able to do it.
I was wondering about the AWD because I wouldn't want to buy the RWD coupe and be like "shoulda got the AWD for the same price" 5 months down the line.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm gona get the RWD in a week or two cause I can't keep all the ladies waiting(Q7) ya know?
=)

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
one thing u might want to invest in when u buy the car is a "chick repellent" its like the old saying "when it rains it pours" and with the coupe its going to be pouring

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
1) No, it doesn't play MP3s.
2) Dunno. Mine was built in Feb and I don't have these problems. I haven't seen these problems brought up on the boards in an alarming rate. However, it is a new model and I would expect some issues. If you can't tolorate any issues, you should probably wait a year or so. That said, I'm not sure what the worry is. If something bad happens (like the engine blowing up), Infiniti should make it right.
3) You can pay full retail for the individual wheels (very expensive - $600 ea?) later. You can't get the "package". The limited slip would be somewhat difficult and expensive I would suspsect. You would basically buy the parts and get the dealer to do the work, paying for both. That is assuming you can convince them to do it. If you want the tires and slip, get them up front, it will be much less expensive. If it's a cost thing, just save a little longer. The upside is the longer you wait, the less likely #2 should appear, and there is a greater (IMO) chance you can get a deal below MSRP.
4. I'm not sure what you mean by "better". If you aren't worried about weather, I would say no. In any case, we don't know if/when/what the AWD option looks like. We can say it will likely be a bit heavier than the existing car.
5. Of course. Who knows. I suspect it depends on what else (if anything) they change. For example, if they up the power to compensate for the weight, price goes up more.
6. We don't know. It sounds pretty sure that the AWD sedan will come out in '04, but there hasn't been solid source saying the coupe will or will not be out in '04.
7. No. :-)

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
To answer your questions (as best I can):
1) No. It will play most burned CD-R's, but not MP3 format. The manual advises against using CD's that have a paper label though, and I'd stick to that.
2) Should you worry? I wouldn't. Even if you end up having the problem, none that I've seen are really worrisome - and Infiniti is apparently making every effort to straighten them out.
3) No. Swapping out the axle for a limited slip isn't worthwhile. If you want it, buy it that way. Plus, it's not just limited slip and bigger rims - it's also the upgraded Brembo brakes, which I HIGHLY recommend. These are not bolt-on swaps, and the price for the upgrades is a bargain, all things considered.
4) AWD is great if you live in an area like I do (Eastern PA), and have concerns about the weather. In California, I wouldn't give it a second thought. AWD systems add a lot of weight as previously mentioned, so unless they up the horsepower considerably to compensate, an AWD version would actually be slower, so the handling gains would be minimal. Heck, it already handles like an exotic, what's the point?
5) Rough guess, AWD would be between 3 - 5 grand more.
6) I doubt it - at least on the Coupe. My dealer said that it's likely the sedan will have AWD available next year, my guess is the Coupe doesn't get it at all, or it takes at least another year or two beyond '04. The drawbacks of AWD (increased weight, increased drivetrain complexity, additional friction in the drivetrain, robbing power) virtually equal the benefits of it in a car like the coupe. The handling gains would be minimal in any conditions other than seriously inclement weather.
7) It depends. If you're a butt-ugly Neanderthal, you'll probably get some... if you're at all decent looking, you'll probably be beating them away with a stick. ;-)

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
If you feel you will eventually want the 18" wheels, etc. by all means order it that way - it is a no brainer. The Mich. Pilot Sport tires themselves are worth over $1000 not to mention the wheels and LSD. The factory package is a bargin at $600.
Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
Only the 6MT has the Brembo brakes. If you get a 5AT with the wheel package, you will NOT get the Brembo brakes.

Re: G35 Coupe QUESTIONS
OK, didn't know that. Thanks.
I guess I never bothered to find out, because I couldn't imagine getting it with an automatic. ;-)
