New member came from an M3
Hey fellow "g" members. I am a new owner to a 2006 g35 with the sport package and 19" factory forged wheels, maybe those are part of the sport package.
I came from a 2005 M3 so I may be a little spoiled rigid chassis/sporty suspension... But, is it pretty common that when coming from a vehicle like that the g feels really soft?
The car doesn't even have 32,000 miles yet. My suspension (and the car itself) feel pretty unstable as far as side to side motion and just over all soft feel.
It has fairly new pilot sport tires (never been a fan of them).
I have been reading the forums here and have decided to upgrade my suspension before anything else and get a couple gtspec (maybe Stillen) braces/chassis reinforcement(brace) as well as some sort of coilover kit. Other than the suspension part I love the car.
It feels like it has comperable power to the M which seems odd since it is rated about 50 HP less (not sure about how much torque but guessing not as high a number).
Thank you in advance for your answers or just over all advice as this car is new to me but from reading isn't new to many members here so any input to me is good input.

get some good coil and upgrade your control arms at the same time with spc front and rear camber kit. also like you said go for some braces. and make sure you get an alignment done when dropping and adding the control arms. your camber and toe will be out of wack.
The 06 g35 came with 298 hp and 269tq. Your m3 was 333hp and 262 tq...that's probably why you don't notice a huge power difference. Get some bolts on, HFCS and a tune and you should be on par with your old m3 power wise.
I would check your bushings as well. Wore bushings can get a feeling of sloppy handling

It was a convertible you can see it here and was just the time of year. Here in MN if it goes much past the 4th of July you tend to lose quite a bit on vert's. I have been debating on cars for a while and test drove the g37 which just felt way too heavy and the bmw's 335 (which I still love) but didnt wanna pay that much again for a car. The g lowered my payments about $135/month only lowered my insurance by about $2/month but the sound of the motor and exhaust over the M (v6 M to clarify) is ten times better. It was also time for my Inspection II (in the real world people call it maintenance at or around the 60,000 mile mark) which at BMW is almost $1500. I didn't want to pay that if I was going to be trading it in within the next few months (I can be random in the car market lol).
I'll check the bushings. It seems odd as this car just needed new rotors and brakes all around as well and it only has 31,xxx miles on it. Yeah that torque sounds about right. That is why I could hang with most cars until around the 120-140 range and then pull away from them (yes in a controlled environment). Not to mention the top speed limiter on the M is a little higher. I try not to compare it to the old car but i got used to the great suspension/rigid body so it is a little different. Over all I am totally satisfied with the g and glad I made the move. Thanks to the members who have responded. I look forward to spending more time on here and getting to know the car and members better.
If you hate how the car handles in the corners your first mod should be Hotchkis sway bars. They will help improve the handle more than any other option people have listed. Go with the sways, then some adjustable coils with at least a rear camber kit and then do the braces if you're still not satisfied. You car will handle like a completely different animal after all of those, but I have a feeling the sways will make the biggest different for you. Depending on your drop you may want some adjustable endlinks as well.

FYI, if u do end up modding the engine there's not many things to do that will make a big diff, except FI of course.
But the best breather mods are Z-tube, Motordyne MREV2 (lower plenum), Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer, full catback exhaust, HFCs or TPs and a tune.

BTW, your bushings should all be good at 30k miles. I wouldn't go on a wild goose chase there... Its just the OEM suspension that is disappointing to you. Easy to upgrade tho!
Yep upgrade that suspension first, after I had my KW Coils installed it was a night/day difference. Our G's are a pretty heavy car for their size so they get alot of body roll on stock suspension. Congrats on the purchase!
I wish our G's had an inline-6 instead of a V configuration.Welcome to the site and good luck with your new G!
welcome to the group, if you want control and stability then suspension should be the first mod you do on the car especially if that the major concern you have, You just should coils and sways which everyone can vouche you will feel the different with at least and if you still if its not stiff enough then you can get the braces but really just depends on how aggressive your driving is as well.
