Some good info for 6MT coupe owners!

So......I got a hair up my *** to clean the heck out of my wheels and brakes today and found out some interesting stuff. Although I always use a pressure washer to throughly clean the calipers and try to get all the dust, etc. out, I found out today that these Brembo calipers hold A LOT of dust and debris in the caliper and the back backing plates? I took compressed air while the wheels were off and could not believe the amount of dust and pebbles that came out!!! Each pass with the air produced a significant brake dust cloud and it took forever for it to clear out....Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area, or even wear a mask!

This leads me to believe that the collection of all that dust and pebbles is probably one of the reasons the Brembo's are know for squeaking alot, although I have not really had this problem.

My point......CLEAN those calipers every once in a while, here are some pics of my cleansing!

Yeah....I know most people do not have the means to do so, but it is not that hard really.......a couple of jacks and a breaker bar and you are home free!

Another good point about this is that my hubs were really rusty and wet after the massive rains we had here, so it is good to get in there and grease the heck out of your hubs.............it is nice to be able to clean the inside of the wheels as well, I feel better now!

I hope you were wearing a respirator. Cleaning brake dust with compressed air is extremely bad for your health.

Yes, I had a mask on after I saw the dust from the first squirt! You are absoluely right about that!

That's a great idea. I never would've thought of compressed air. How many miles did you put on the brakes before cleaning?

Roadracer your car look crazy. I love the wheels, although I liked it with the black ones too. Looked original.

They are different cars really. The BMW is a nice car, the G is faster and more fun to drive, but my 330 is an auto as well. I was going to get rid of the BMW when I bought the G, but there is a little place in my heart for that 330, so for now she stays! Both cars have their pros and cons as with any other car on the road.

This is the first time with compressed air, she is right at 27K! As mentioned, I always use a pressure washer when cleaning, that I am sure helps a lot as well?

I usually only do a mist and wipe on my car because I don't take it out on wet
roads, but occassionally I wash and yes, my driveway gets black from the brake
dust accumulated on the calipers and from the inner wheel rim.

I'll make sure to wash more frequently this year.
