Ok so for about 3 weeks I've been getting this weird chatter when I first start up my car after it has been sitting over night. It wasn't constant, but for the past week it would get louder when I pressed the gas. It then would go away after about 2 miles down the road. Today I took it to my buddies shop and we put it up on the lift. I was hoping for something exhaust related, but no such luck. It seems to be coming from the rear of the engine on the drivers side. Or atleast its the loudest there. I'm a little bummed cause I just bought this car in November, and have only put 2000 miles on it. It has 75k on the clock and wasn't expecting to have to any major engine work on it yet. My buddy seems to think it might be a valve issue. But since they don't get into stuff there, I am sending it to the dealer to get there take on it.

 

Good luck with the diagnosis. I had my car (05 6mt coupe) for about 6 months before I started experiencing the chatter. A few days later my engine blew when I was on the highway. This was back in October 2011. Infiniti said that metal shavings got into my oil pan. I had a new engine rebuilt and the shop just put in my new engine today. To say the least, it was a nightmare. What year/trans is your car?

Hopefully it's just something minor for you and not the dreaded oil consumption issue.

It's a 05 6 mt. I have been checking my oil when ever I drive it. And its always reading full.

 

You should check it ever 1500 k and you may see difference. According to my infiniti shop foreman every 05/06 with 6mt burn oils at lease half liter
