Actually I know exactly what you are talking about, only in my car and couple of others I heard from, it was actually coming from the rear-passenger side wheel.

It has something to do with the rear axle, or wheel bearing, or something of that sort. I took it twice to the dealer and on the second time they said they re-lubed the axle (or whatever that means...).

The sound itself shows up like you said - while cruising (especially on a downhill). If you apply the brakes it goes away. The noise is a rocking squeaking - kind'a like a two rusted joints being worked out.

Take it to the dealer.

Good luck.

Does the G have brake pad life expiration warning devices...little metal tabs that make a terrible sound once the pad wears down enough for them to come in contact with the brake disk. This noise will go away when you hit the brakes. This is common on GM cars.

Mine squeals when I cruise not when I brake. Like I stated before - the squeal actually goes away when I apply the brakes. In any case, it's already confirmed that it has nothing to do with the brakes but rather with the wheel bearing prematurely wearing out due to a too-tight factory spec.

I thought every car with disc brakes has this?

That sucks- my '91 300ZX's front wheel bearings finally had to be replaced at 160,000 miles, rears are fine. At least it is covered by warranty. With my luck, my G's bearings will shoot craps at 65,000 miles
