Smoother Ride and Front license

Let me begin by saying that I'm a novice when it comes to car parts and what-not. So please be gentle while answering.

I just bought my G35 coupe last week. It's an 05/AT/PREMIUM/SPORT/AERO. I got the sports package for the 19" wheels and cornering abilities. But I'm already getting sick of the "sporty" bumpiness of it. I was wondering if someone can show me a way of making the ride smoother. Should I get new shocks? Or am I just stuck with what I bought?

Also, can someone direct me to a good and reputable company for a front license plate adaptor for my car? I've been pulled over twice in the past for not having the front plates and do not want to go through that hassle again.

Thanks in advance for all your help! This forum rocks!

strictlyz.com has a front license plate adaptor that screws in to the tow hook so you don't have to drill holes...i think others have gotten it and have had no problems with it...otherwise i think the dealer will install/drill the stock one for you...

you might want to start by trading someone for their 18" wheels and tires.

Thats the point of the sportiness and handling ability, you loose the "bumpiness" then you loose the cornering abilities. I am not sure if there is a way to reverse this maybe someone else knows? It might be the whole setup not just the shocks because the springs are stiffer causing that bumpiness ride as if the car were dropped.

For the plate adapter try www.everythingg35.com

Goodluck.

I've heard that this car is not smooth at all. I dunno, how much more rougher can they get from the 18's which I believe to be very rough...

as far as the rough ride goes, you're kinda stuck with it. 19" wheels combined with the stiff sport suspension mean a relatively rough ride...but its great in cornering! you could always get a "softer" suspension setup but of course that would cost $$$.

www.perfnissan.com/parts.shtml has stillen front license plate brackets...make sure to select the 04+ one.

i'd also recommend buying a K&N air filter

Thanks for all the help so far! It's always nice to see so many people taking time out of their busy day to help someone out!

I don't mind spending money. I mean, I've already spent so much for the car, I want it to be perfect!

So it is possible to get new suspensions for a softer ride? Are we talking about the TEIN Damper series of suspensions? Everything I've read tells me that it would lower the car and keep it near (but worse) than stock in terms of ride comfort.

Thanks again for all your help!

jerrydough - you might want to invest in some H-tech springs as those are much
softer rate than your stock springs and it'll lower your ride a little bit making
your 19's tucked in a little better.

The TEIN coilover kits are probably too stiff. The soft one (TypeCS) is 392lbs/in
which is on the brim of performance street and 'comfort.'

Another option, trade your stock 19" wheels with someone with factory 17" wheels. Will give you smoother ride with 17's. You will have no problem trading those 19", trade + cash. Coilovers will not smooth riding condition, even with adjustable dampers.

LOL!!! I feel that my G35 is quite smooth. But of course I'm comparing it with my RX-7 with its race-ready suspension.

Some 17" may not fit due to brake clearance. Stock 18"s do fit fine. You may have to get new suspension components if you want the ride smoother.

Or you can sell the current G you have privately. And buy another new one without the sport package. Just a crazy thought.

I have no idea how the new Coupe rides as it has that new "Sport suspension" and the 19" wheels but my 03 model with the 18" wheels just hit all the bumps WAY too hard. The car has a hard time keeping itself composed, it just hits everything with too much "oomph". I have a feeling that the revised sport suspension and the new 19" wheels probably make for a smoother ride than 03/04 Coupes with the 18" wheels. Can anyone, from experience (such as test-driving back to back or something), confirm this?
Thats exactly how I feel E, everything is or can be an incident when hitting bumps with this car. Its made for like the most unrealistic smooth road that has no imperfections whatsoever.

I believe the Tein CS coilovers are geared towards a better ride quality while maintaining good sport handling. I do not know this for fact though.
