Trying To Go F/I

okay i have searched alot looking for some direction but can't find a clear answer for my questions, so here are my questions, I want to go F/I but i don't have the budget for 3-5 grand turn key kit, a couple of people have told me i should buy a turbo and parts separate and just pay a shop for piping and install. how and what turbo should i choose for 400HP? for example like a garrett GT____ will be efficient for 400HP on stock internals. thats my main trouble on choosing the turbos, I hate hearing the average guy say "Any turbo will work" and for my second question does anyone have any other ways of getting a turbo setup other than buying separate, i thank you all for your future advice, ive done my research it just seems nobody can share their secrets.

The secret is that it costs a lot of money no matter how you do it.. It's not just the kit/turbo that you have to worry about but all the supporting mods, tune, etc... Not to mention that regardless what anyone tells you FI on a vq is always a coin toss.

Going from 10.3:1 stock compression to 8.8:1 NA is going to be a significant loss of performance

I did my kit as economically as possible... Picked up:

Used Greddy 18G kit
Miscellaneous small parts from Greddy
A/F, oil temp, and boost guages with controller & pillar pod
Test pipes
3" Y-Pipe
JWT clutch package from IPP
Installation
Uprev license
Tune

All done for just under 10K. That is on the cheaper end of things considering its a TT setup that basically requires pulling the engine out (not necessary but makes life 100X easier for the mechanic). The only kits that people like that are inexpensive are the Monentum single kit that is a full turn key system (vendor recently posted they have a few instock with install and tune under 8K and the boosted performance kit which I'm not exactly sure what's needed to make it turn key.

If you piece a kit together for under 5K, remember you still need a clutch, and tune (including uprev) which you're looking at close to 2K just for that. It's NEVER as cheap as you think it's going to be. Be prepared to spend %20-%30 more than what you think it's going to be.

Good luck!

They DID know that, they were just trying to get you to spend money.. .They are a business after all Technically they are right, you would be "fine".. as in the car will run and drive with no issues... But you'll have a noticable lack of power until you strap on the turbos, and you'd have to pay for dyno tuning twice

That's what uprev is. That's the best bang for the buck option for the G's.

if your only going for 400hp crank then i would suggest looking at a vortech super charger. You could easily hit that number and it'll be easier to install since you can do it yourself.

But i would suggest reading up on the FI forum. If you want to piece this your self you need to do more research and what is your power goal, what size injectors your going to need, is the stock fuel pump enough for your needs or do you need a higher psi one. Things like that will save time and money.

Try to plan out your build as much as possible without leggoing it.

6k and you can get to those numbers just did with a vortech sc. If you install yourself read the FAQ in the fi section to start.

I did my entire kit for a little over $4k for 340 / 340 rwhp / tq. It's possible (obviously), but I also got lucky in some ways.
