I bought the G with the short shifter already installed. I want to wrap the shift ****, and i am just making sure that the **** just twists off and i don't need to take extra precautions.

If your car is a 6MT, which is sounds like it is given that your **** is twist on/off, you need to pop up the plastic trim piece that constitutes the lower part of the center console (ash tray + shifter area). It pops up pretty easily.

Then, you need to grab a hold of the shift lever with a pair of vise grips or pliers prior to spinning off the ****. The reason is that if your shift **** is screwed on tightly, you might twist the entire shifter assembly and unscrew it from where it attaches to the tranny, which would not be good.
