Coupe Convertible on it' way !!!
Coupe Convertible on it' way !!!
I'm sure I have everyone's attention from this title. Now the tough part is to sell my findings to the sceptics. First off, have some faith, I go by the theory "If you ask they will build", so here goes.
Two major cars shows have passed, the US's Detroit International Auto Show, and the Canadian (Montreal) International Auto Show. The great thing about these shows is that not only do they have the local dealers, but the marketing and sales reps for the respective country, responsible for dealing with head office for importing orders as well as preparing dealers for new models.
Well, dealers are suppose to start getting prepared for a new model, the convertible. It is confirmed to be built in 2005 and be offered as a 2006. The only thing that will delay it being offered in 2006 is if they hit any major build issues, which could drag it to 2007. With all the technology on the market, and the convertibles already out there from the likes of Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, this build should be a no brainer, hence the 2006 release this was the reps comments).
I was also told that I could go and see my sales person, and have him sign me up for a 1st drive, 1st insepction when the car arrives next year. I was also told by the marketing rep that the car is estimated somewhere in the vicinity of G35 coupe + $10K Canadian.
One last note, based on what I saw at this car show, the fashion seems to be going more and more towards convertibles, and all with cream, beige interiors. All major maufacturers had some sweet machine on the floor that was convertible.
One last comment on the convertible model. I find that it's a little bit of a pain in the butt to have your guest fold together to get back there into the back seats. Also, if you have kdis, it's probably a struggle to get back there to attach the baby seat. Now with a convertible, you simply move the seat away and your guests can simply walk into the back rather than crouch down and fold together like an acrobat. And for the fathers, you can walk in as well and also lean over the car to strap your kid in. Definitely lots of strong points for the convertible, not to mention the sex appeal of having those 4 headrests on display with the wind blowing through your hair.
So now those of you that want to believe, then start saving that extra money. For the others that might think this Canadian marketing rep was all blah blah, then fine, but one thing is for sure. If the Infiniti population is calling out for it, sooner or later they will have to respond to that demand in order to take advantage of those people like me who are willing to give them another $10K Canadian for chopping the top ....
Enjoy your coupes while we all wait anxiously.....

I hope they dont build a convertible. Then it would probably weigh another 300lbs more and the added weight would be in all the wrong places. The best way would be if it were a hardtop convertible, but then would you pay $45k for it? Either way, to keep a similar roofline (one of the best parts of the G), they'd need to remove the rear seat altogether. Not worth it imo. They should just do a panoramic roof if anything in that regard. Honestly I would rather see them work on other things like more power and more fixes for common problems.

Only way they should make an Infiniti convertible is if its hardtop. The Z convertible just doesnt do it for me. Especially with the added risk of someone just coming up and sticking a knife in your room and its done. Trust me, I've seen a handful of damaged convertibles that way.

I doubt infiniti do a T-top, but they have had a convertibles in the past.
If they are building it, I'll get my deposit back for the '05 coupe and will place it on '06 vert, especially a hardtop. I wouldn't mind the extra weight either. I miss my last convertible so much (S2000).

I've got a soft spot for all rag-tops......I've had a few, and loved every one.
In the G-Coupe tho, where space in the rear is at a premium already, adding a soft top would only restrict space even more. Unless they chop 2 seats.
