Service engine soon? after oil change?

..So Today I went and got my oil changed (Synthetic Valvoline oil + a oil filter ) and new air filter. Quick in and out.. After leaving, I stop at the gas-station and fill up. I get on the highway heading towards a friends place, after setting cruise and then turning it off coming towards my exit, i notice the "Service Engine Soon" light is on? I drove it back home and let it sit for 20-30 mins off, turned it back on and it was still there. I'm super worried.

2003 G, - 99k miles.

I read in other threads it could be EVAP problem, what things should i check in the morning.

Make sure your gas cap is tight. Go to AutoZone or the like and borrow a code reader. Report back with the code generated.

You need to find out what the error code means, only then will you be able to correct what ever's causing it. We could guess all day at what might cause the SES....Gary

just came back from Auto-zone. they were very helpful.

Seems to be code P0102 causing the SES light.
they also said probable cause would be
Open or short circuit
Poor electrical connection
Vacuum leak
Fault MAF sensor.

Should i not be driving the G till i fix this?

Try disconnecting the battery for like 10mins. Just read up on the code and this was one of the suggestions. Give it a shot, who knows plus it wont hurt anything

Its MAF sensor fault. You can try cleaning it or just replacing it. Its a relatively cheap part. You can buy a new oem sensor for $40.

But i would try getting some MAF cleaner from autozone and clean it first.

That what I was thinking.

How much damage am i doing to my car driving it with this error code? I read online it will not cause drivablity problems/issues, but possible mpg loss/ hesitation/sluggish.

went and got the MAF Cleaner, plan on doing that tomorrow, and hopfully it will fix it. I hope to be able to find a DIY tutorial, as I'm pretty novice when it comes to working on cars..

Can we assume (dislike the word) you had someone do the oil/filter change along with the air filter? Since the issue seems to be the MAF sensor located close to the filter, check out the wiring and open up the intake where the filter is making sure they didn't leave something behind that doesn't belong there. You never know when you have someone do simple tasks for you how messed up things can get....Gary

Sorry i meant the aftermarket MAF sensor not the oem. $40 vs $200, i would just get the aftermarket.

it doesn't matter as much as in Turbo and supercharged cars, but it'll make your car run rich and cause you to lose mpg in the short term and kill your cats faster in the long term from running rich.

I took apart the MAF sensor, sprayed it the the Cleaner from autozone, waited a good half hour. had battery unplugged as well. I put it all back together, Start the car, and i still see the SES light

is my last choice replacing MAF sensor?

would this work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Infin...aa7654&vxp=mtr

you have to clear the code and see if it comes back.

Didn't know that!

Alright will do first thing tomorrow morning

I saw searching this site, Just disconnect the battery (Neg) and step on the brake a few times to clear the SES? is this true?
