I agree buy it back and part it out if you have space to store it while your selling the parts

There is way way way WAAAAAAY more than $1800 worth of parts in that thing...

Motor is at least 1K.
Tranny at least a few hundred if not more.
Headlights about $400 easy.
Taillights a couple hundred.
Wheels at least $400. $750 if they are in really good shape. (Add more if your tires are in good shape.)

Right there is well over 2K

Then there's SO much more on top of that.
Seats
Bumpers
Crash Beams
Your Rev-up intake
Cats
Door Panels (drivers side, at least)
Center Console
Gauge Cluster...
Shift ****
Axles
Diff

The list goes on dude...

That said, if you do decide to buy it back and part it out.

I would be very interested in your front bumper and possibly interested in your wheels (there, you already have a chunk recouped from me alone).

Because this is just what the insurance agent told me but said i need to discuss it with the adjuster assigned to the claim. hes a very hard man to get a hold of haha. I am just wondering if this is a common practice in the insurance industry and if people had experience in this kind of thing.

I am thinking about doing this, however i am not sure how much it would be to fix the car realistically, i dont have experience in this kind of thing but i would be willing to learn, MY bro has a tig welder, not sure if i could use that to chop out the bent column and weld a new one in or what. I wonder how much an autobody would charge to fix this cash? I might just fix it slow as i have extra cash and buy something nice with the rest of the money. keep this unregistered, mod It, boost it, and race it at the track about an hour from here just keep it strictly a track car. Before the insurance company totaled it the car was still driving fine, didnt seem to be pulling in any direction which was really suprising because the whole hood on the passenger side was out of alignment by a few millimeters which shows possible bent frame on that side but you would never know it from driving the car.

Ill let you know what I end up doing with it, i need to get ahold of the adjuster today, front bumper is in perfect condition, the passenger rear wheel is chewed up a bit, other ones are in decent shape.

If you are buying it back to part it out...then yes, that's a great deal. You can make $1900 easy on the parts.

I've parted cars out before and made much more money doing so. All you need is a place to park the car (recommend a car cover as some towns frown on "junk" cars sitting in driveways) and time to strip it and sell parts.

keep in mind, you'll have to dispose of what's left of the shell. See if there are some junkyards nearby that will pick it up for free and what sort of condition it needs to be in to pick it up. Some want rolling chassis. Just something to consider

Make sure its not a salvage title if you do buy it back to keep it. Sometimes when they total it then you buy it back you have to go thru alot to get it re-certified for registration. but if you think about parting it then this shouldnt even be a thread lol. either way doesnt seem like a lot of damage. plus thats a reason to get racing seats since you already lost the airbags.

Okay dude very sorry to hear about your accident it sucks. Now lets just do a cost benefit analysis being logical.... Yes you have a great car and its sweet, loaded and what not but two air bags deployed. Even if you paid to repair it you would not get 18 000. Or you can pay someone to fix this up for you and keep it costing you maybe 10 000, but then you have an accidental vehicle.

Outcome 1: No car , $18,000
Outcome 2: Same car, been in an accident, wallet is robbed
Outcome 3: Part out a car and get 1900 for it when you could get 18 000....
Outcome 4: Dude take the damn money and buy a new car and pocket some cash lol. Stick with a G!!

You mentioned your Dad has a friend with a body shop, have him check it out. See what he'd charge you to bring it back to life. You could give it to your brother or just sell it. Low mileage '07 MT coupe should easily bring $17K+ once it's back in mint condition....Gary

not to say your wrong because Im in Canada and you seem to be in the States, but an accidental vehicle typically is devalued by %50 of the cost of repairs meaning if this costs 5000$ to fix being conservative hed get 17 000- 2500 = 14 500....

Take the 18 000 and if you really want the 07 MT G coupe just buy one im sure you can find one for less then that.

To answer your question, this is a common practice in the industry. Not the same I know but I had a 1998 Sentra that was totalled. Minor damage in the rear, but I got paid $2800 for the car, and then bought it back for $400. Needed no repairs to drive, and I drove it another 2 years, had someone else hit me and they paid me another $500.

It will be a salvage title. Always will be. Nothing you can do about that, but insurance will have no problem insuring it. And you will have to get it inspected, which is minor, if you end up keeping it to drive.

It will not be worth the same as a car with a full title, but still worth money.

Good Lord, yes buy it. If the body is not whack, this is a relatively easy fix.

I think you misunderstood what he posted. The insurance company will PAY HIM $18K for the total of the car. THEN they will SELL IT BACK TO HIM for $1.9K (I'm sure so they don't have to **** with unloading it). He pays the $1.9 and say $3500-5000 for repairs and sells it for $14-15K. What's not to like here? Sounds like money in HIS pocket to me

Exactly, there's money to be made here either way, if he decides to fix it or part it out. Buy the car back either way man!
