Question MY 2007 G Totaled in accident. Insurance company gave me an interesting option

OK my 2007 G35 was totaled, the insurance is giving me the KBB value of the car in "good" condition which is around 18k. the car isnt that messed up. I am probably going to buy a G37s. but the insurance company said i can buy the car back for 10% of the payout. Check out the pics. passenger air bags deployed, the right column bent in about 2 inches and is touching passenger seat. Do you think i should buy this back and part it out myself? the engine was replaced by infiniti and has about 40k miles on it. entire car has 65k. 6MT navigation RAS fully loaded everything and it is in great condition other than the smashed passenger side. So is it worth it to buy this for 1900 and part it out? or even try a my dad's friend who owns a body shop fix it and have two G's

Check the pics there are two in that link http://imgur.com/qXLnv,ecOw5#0(rest of car is in great shape) your suggestions and opinions are much appreciated.

That's what my insurance agent said, i asked him to look into it. I was saying i bet the engine is worth much more than 1.9k.

Has anyone ever heard about this 10% buyback after a car is totaled?

Wait, they'll pay you $18k and if you pay them back $1,800 you'll also own the car? Hmmmmm. Get an estimate from your garage to fix it or if your really good with cars and body panel work, DIY.

Nice deal, it sounds like...

I was thinking about turning it into a project car with my brother, we are both decent with cars, but it would be fun to learn body work and take our time with it

I'd do it. Engine alone should get you about 1.2K & front projector headlights at least $700 for the pair., rear tails for about $300. Theres you initial investment & some right there.

There is another thread on here where a member paid about $4500 to have a used engine put in his car (more miles than yours).

1800 dollars is the cost of a brake job on a Mercedes. Seems too good to be true.

Why is this even a question? I'd do it in a heartbeat.
