massive oil consumption
my 2003 g 35 coupe 6 speed manual has started to use oil about 6 months ago it has increased to the point of 1 litre per 1000 kms. dealer say engine is done. I have the opportunity to get an engine out of a 2004 350z the difference is one has engine vin C the other engine vin A. i asked the dealer if they are interchangeable and they told me they did not know. I think they are full of crap does anyone know for sure?
They are full of crap... pretty sure that shouldn't make a difference. the revup and non revup engine differences are what you need to worry about. Those engines are both non-rev so it should work.
have you thought about why your engine started burning oil "all of the sudden"?
Check your PCV valve, it could be spitting oil.
Check your valve covers, could be leaking oil.
Do you see alot of smoke coming from the exhaust? this could spell piston rings or valve guide seals and a new engine may be a good solution.
I'd look at those before you replace the engine..

It might be worth your time and $$ to find a independent Nissan mechanic and have him check your OC issue out. Since your dealership didn't know if the '04 G and Z engine were the same I wouldn't look back....Gary
Yeahhhhh i would avoid that dealership. Like gary said, find a mechanic who knows Nissan's who you can trust and is knowledgeable. At the very least you'll save a lot of money on labor and someone who knows what they are doing will be putting in a new engine for you
