Does fuel injector cleaner actually work? Or is it considerably better to have your dealership do a fuel injector cleaning service? I've heard it's best to go to the dealer but they charge over $300

Screw seafoam.Forget emptying out your wallet at the dealership. Go with Lucas fuel injection cleaner for $5.99. There top notch. About once a month or everyother in my 07 G coupe with 59,300. Makes it feel like my VQ is on steroids and helps save gas very noticeable! Highly recommended

 

This is because it increases the octane rating of your gas, therefore meaning less pre-detonation, therefore meaning the car can advance cam timing more. It's also a bit of a placebo effect.

OP: Use the SeaFoam through the brake booster technique if you really feel it's necessary. However, I'd suggest unbolting your cats (SeaFoam CAN and WILL clog cats), and buying a new set of spark plugs (it could also possibly burn up, or greatly shorten the life of, spark plugs if they're worn).

At 40,000 miles, unless you've been using really, really cheap gas, you shouldn't need any kind of injector cleaner service. I'd say wait until you hit 75,000.

Honestly, SeaFoam is better used on platforms like marine craft, because it's good at displacing moisture in fuel lines. I use it more in my Jet Ski than I do in my G.

Agreed, that if you need your injectors cleaned at 40k, you have some serious issues going on with the car.

Seafoam should work fine and I highly doubt the plugs need to be changed afterwards. I never had any problems with mine with over 25K miles after seafoaming.

 

Ngk plugs are like 20 buck big whoop lol jk but I feel u on not wasteing money

 

It's not a necessity to replace spark plugs, but it is suggested, especially on cars with higher mileage on the plugs.

If you have Iridiums, or the factory NGK-Rs, you should be okay. But if anyone's (dunno why you would in a high compression motor, but people do) running cheap plugs, it's suggested because the SeaFoam can cause the plugs to burn up or foul.

I was going to say. A set of OEM NGK-R's runs about $25 at AutoZone. But $25 is $25, I suppose.

 

The Lucas stuff is almost useless and many mechanics strongly recommend against it. If you buy it, you most likely fell for the autozone guys speech on it...

I've been using Red Line fuel Injector cleaner for years, cost is +/- $7= depending on where you buy it. I add a bottle every second oil change which equates to every 4 months. I would never go to the dealership for this kinda service or any other for that matter!
