Valve Cover Leak Question

Hi Folks,

So upon searching, I have concluded that it is a common problem for our cars to be leaking from the valve cover, specifically the 6th spark plug. I recently discovered that my car was doing this. I know there is the fix where you can drill on the covers and insert the o-rings, but my question is; does it actually do no harm to just drive it with the leak? I have no oil consumption issues and for all I know, I could have been driving this for the longest time without even realizing and nothing has happened yet. Does anyone have any advice or suggestion on this? It's a costly repair so if I can avoid it I would rather. Thanks.

I also am interested in this. I have 102k miles and plan on doing spark plugs soon. Im afraid of finding oil in the valve cover as well. It seems to be driving good except when i rev to 5k I can hear a loud tapping noise in the engine but it goes away if I rev past that. Could it be because of oil affecting the spark?

I'm a little afraid to do the work myself. I don't want to accidentally drill wrong or something. I noticed you are also from San Jose. Do you know anyone who would do the drilling method?

I'm interested. Both of my valve covers are leaking. The driver's side especially so.
